G N Tunnel Completes Greatest Engineering Feat

The Great Northern tunnel east of Lewistown on the Lewistown to New Rockford cut is finished after 15 months of winter work. It measures 3163 feet, the larger of two tunnels through the divide, the smaller at 903 feet. Division Engineer C A Walker oversaw construction as the line eastward surveys reach Dawson and Fergus counties. A joint track of the Great Northern and Milwaukee may run Grass Range to Winnett once grading completes.

War's awful toll as British drive nets vast prisoner haul

London reports since April 1 British forces have captured over 20,000 German prisoners and hundreds of guns and mortars, with the French drive yielding 29,000 more. The Franco British offensive total exceeds 50,000 prisoners, while Arras casualties run 50 to 75 percent lower than Somme levels. A credit of 2.5 billion dollars is sought, noting a daily expenditure of 37.25 million.
