William Owsley founder of Butte and the faith which made him rich
William Owsley, pioneer and former mayor of Butte, dies in Twin Bridges. He arrived with little more than a sack of flour and a slab of bacon, built the Owsley block in downtown Butte, backed quartz mining ventures, and helped transform the mining camp into a permanent city. His life spanned the rise from placer digging to planned reclamation projects in Idaho and Montana.

Review of the Statutes Enacted by Senator Booth
A statewide review notes major changes in election law. Senate bill 124 would send the issue to a September 1919 vote to adopt a state convention system for selecting federal and state officers, with primaries still used for county offices. It also covers rotating ballot design, independent candidate limits, revised bond restraint actions, stock subscription notes, and amended workmen’s compensation, tax exemptions, and a new grain grading and warehouse commission. The special election decides whether the new system or the present primary law governs next year.
