Mountain States seeks Montana rate hike with hearings
An application filed with the Montana railroad and public service commission by Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph asks for a speedy hearing to justify losses of 235000 last year and a 400000 deficit this year. Town rates would rise 25 to 50 cents monthly for residential phones and 50 cents to 81 for business lines. Rural lines face no increase. Long distance rates would rise from four-fifths to one cent per mile, and installation charges would jump from 2.50 to 5. A minimum 30 day subscriber term would replace long contracts.
