Board reducing the high cost of dying
The state board of accidents reports the North Butte mine disaster deaths cost funerals up to 208 dollars with an average 150 and a reasonable minimum 117 dollars. Forty funerals cost 75 dollars or less while heirs of 35 identified dead receive 3380 dollar lump sums. The board under A E Spriggs is economizing and has spent 118000 dollars so far. Reasonable identification will enable settlements for the 64 unidentified dead.
