Man Power Bill Passes House Amid Draft Debate
Washington, Aug 24. The new man power bill extending the selective draft to all men aged 18 to 45 was passed by the House 336 to 2 after three days of debate. Initial opposition came from Rep London of New York and Rep Gordon of Ohio. A proposed deferment for 18 to 20 year olds failed 146 to 191. The bill moves to the Senate, which aims to substitute the House version for speedier enactment and forward to the president by late next week.
