School Notes Preview Two Plays Declamatory Contest Saturday

The manual training boys work on a stage for two plays to be performed at the gym Saturday. A declamatory contest is set for the same evening with ten cent admission to cover expenses. Fergus County farmers cut winter wheat acreage sharply

County Agent Carl H. Peterson estimates Fergus County winter wheat acreage will drop 35 to 50 percent from last season due to late harvest and labor shortages. He projects about 75 000 acres, boosted by better grain condition in Denton and Coffee Creek, while farmers shift toward spring grain and corn. Hog production and poultry, especially turkeys, rise, and sheep survive the winter well amid drought.

Washington April 10 1923 the agriculture department projects winter wheat production at 572 317 000 bushels for the year based on April crop condition down from 600 316 000 in 1921 and below the five year average of 565 905 000. Rye is seen at 75 784 000 bushels with rye condition at 81.8 percent.

May Drill North This Summer In Grass Range Area

Early this spring reports suggested Spindle Top would dominate talk but The Allen Oil Co. plans to return and drill one or two wells north of town near the Walker Bros. hole abandoned last fall. Leases are being prepared this week and activity in Flatwillow and nearby fields could impact Grass Range. Deep tests at Devil's Basin and renewed interest around Forest Grove on the Jackson dome and Piper may resume drilling soon.

Osers Plan to Spend Time in America

Mr and Mrs Max Oser have bought a farm near Lake Geneva in Vaud Switzerland. They will spend six months of the year on the farm and the remainder in the United States. Oser a former Swiss riding master married Miss Mathilde McCormick of Chicago last week in England and intends to become a naturalized American citizen.
