Mayfield notices mix of funerals and socials in November

The Mayfield community held the funeral of John Wrightman at the Mayfield church with Rev. Little. A Hallowe en social at the schoolhouse raised funds for library books. Local residents, including the Gibbs couple and Holliday family, enjoyed gatherings and visits. The Aid society meets at Mrs. Sayers home and October pupils were noted as punctual. In North Mabel, Tom Pray buys potatoes, a Hammond residence fire caused heavy loss, and several residents visit kin or travel to Grand Rapids.

The Courtade school vacation extends a week. Farmers finish digging potatoes. Residents attended a dance by Steve Lautner in his barn. Harvest Supper Planned by Elk Lake Gleaners

Elk Rapids and Yuba notes report a harvest supper planned by the Gleaners of Elk Lake Arbor at Angels hall on Friday November 14 with a fine program and good time expected. Numerous local residents attend visits, school starts after a two week potato vacation, and students show attendance and study progress in geography and multiplication.

Long Lake District News and Local Notes

J.B. Durga harvested six bushels of Rene from three square rods of the garden at twenty five dollars per bushel per acre. Some choice ones weighed fourteen ounces each and measured thirteen and a half inches in circumference. John Schamehorn travels to Traverse City Wednesday for a directors meeting. Miss Lena Penner also heads to Traverse City for the winter. Peter Johnson and family spent Sunday at Joe Hartman's. Edna T. Wilcox is grammar room teacher for Long Lake School District No. 1.

Bloodgood School Opens After Harvest Break

Bloodgood school in Williamsburg resumed last Monday after a three weeks harvest break. Principal Vera Alward leads students planning a Thanksgiving social to raise funds for a new organ. Several residents, including Mrs Ray Shug and Miss Gladys Shug, and Mr Andrew Amler are noted in the community update. A harvest festival and supper by the Grange is slated for November 18.
