Freight Wreck Halts Train No 183 Near Halstead

A Marquette box car derailed from train No 183 on the Kalkaska branch half a mile south of Halstead, pulling adjacent cars from the track. The wreck blocked traffic for hours as a wrecking crew and steam outfit were dispatched from nearby cities. No injuries reported and the cause remains undetermined with theories centering on the baggage car.

Buckley to Walton M and N Extension Begins Work

Buckley Michigan May 21 a force of seventy five men began work this morning on the extension of the M and N from Buckley to Walton fifteen miles. Three miles of this are already completed and before snow flies trains will be able to use the line.

Buckley couple wed in Buckley home ceremony

A pretty home wedding took place at the bride’s parents’ residence, Miss Bertha Wightman and Fred Morse, both of Buckley, were married Sunday evening by Rev. Upham. The couple are highly esteemed and receive well wishes from friends. Professor Catton of Benzonia College will give the Memorial Day address. Hamilton, Titus, Musselman and Walker of Traverse City were here on business yesterday.

Mrs Phil Griffin Brise Bessie and Phil Jr spent the day in the city returning to Northport this afternoon. Miss AM Schaub went to Harbor Springs today. K G Butters went to Ludington yesterday to fit out the Chequamagon. Mrs E Baker is visiting at Trout Lake. O M Morse went to Grawn on business today. Mrs George R Newman left for Glen Arbor to visit relatives. Dr O E Chase has returned from a business trip to Grand Rapids.

Judge Threatened by Man with Revolver in Chambers

In Bellaire Ohio yesterday Judge W. Mayne was confronted by a German visitor who entered his private chamber. A confrontation followed and the judge moved back into the courtroom ordering the floor closed. He told the sheriff to take care of the man he claimed hid a revolver and a reevaluated weapon.

Sheriff and Angry Suspect Battle Over Revolver Incident

August Shocke of Banks township faced sheriff in a violent office confrontation as he demanded a pistol and broke his leg in the scuffle. The German 44 caliber revolver was recovered with a dagger belt hanger. Shocke, linked to prior divorce and mob-law disputes, was jailed after surgery. The weapon proved functional, and witnesses called it a deadly threat amid a chaotic scene at the prosecutor’s office.

Two Fishermen Rescued After Sunday Storm Near Manistique

Two Mani tique fishermen, buffeted in a gasoline boat with a broken fheebalt, drifted for an hour after a Sunday storm and were not rescued until yesterday noon. They were found forty miles from Manistique by a car ferry and towed to safety. The men, out since Saturday morning, endured cold and exposure with little to eat or drink. Their James boat measured about thirty feet.
