Mr and Mrs H L Nessen hosted guests in Cedar with J Sullivan. Mr and Mrs Hale of Empire visited Frank Fisher family. Forrester family moved to Traverse City. Inman family staying in former home. Yankee family moved near Nessen’s mill. A barge and a schooner carried lumber from Nessen’s dock last week. H I Nessen went to Chicago on business. Henry Wylander went to hospital in Manistee. Mrs Price and daughter returned to Grand Rapids after visiting her parents. Mrs Tuttle hosted farewell dinner for Samuel Daniels heading to Indiana with son in law Frank Tuttle accompanying him. Doe. David Johnson hosts a Rochester cousin during the past week while Mrs. Laura Letsen stayed with Ed Letsen’s children as Mrs. Letsen attended her brother’s funeral in Grand Rapids. Mrs Will Frindel is on the gain. Several families in the area are contending measles. Mrs Cleeland visited Ed Letsen’s home Sunday. Mrs Carr traveled to Cadillac last Thursday due to illness.
Mrs. Geo Kelderhouse remains on the sick list. Miss Bessie Kreitz visited her parents and returned to Traverse City Saturday. Mr and Mrs J Krubner traveled to Milwaukee for a visit. A wedding dance at Joe Shalda hall drew a large crowd and good reports. Mr and Mrs Johan Kreitz planned a visit to Elk Rapids. Potato planting is the order of the day in the area.
Mrs Chas Box and her children from Kingsley attended church here on Sunday, joining other parishioners for services and a fellowship gathering after worship.

The Elk Rapids Independent loan team played the Acme team here Saturday. It was a close game until the seventh inning when two favorable plays gave Acme a 5 to 4 victory. A very clean, nice game. The Acme team expects to play at Ell Rapids Saturday the 22nd with the Elk Cement Co. team. June 18.

John Winchcomb and son Leo from Hodge visited last week. Marion Rawlings visits in Hodge. Albert Krouse of West Hannah and Lucy Engel with Joe Tilo attended the Maccabee dance in Kingsley. Grants residents, including Harry Dixon, visited Irwin Rawlings and Traverse City visitors joined James Wise and family in Matchett.
A logging bee occurred at the Douds and Deneek farm on Monday June 17 with many neighbors helping clean a two patch of ground. Refreshments were served and participants enjoyed the gathering despite scarce hired help, indicating farming must improvise during such times. Mantrue Center June 1?
