About one hundred Elks gathered after a Thursday session to honor Robert Caldwell and Alderman James Murchie who will depart next week for Scotland and Europe. The 1907 smoker featured old fashioned fare and music by Stewart’s orchestra and the lodge quartet. Caldwell and Murchie received engraved Elks emblems, with expressions of friendship, and Caldwell sang Annie Laurie.

Tragic Haywagon Accident Kills 6 Year Old Hazel Leggett
A terrible accident near Kingsley Michigan yesterday afternoon left six year old Hazel Leggett dead after a hay wagon trolley jolted on rough ground. Her brother Bert Seeley narrowly escaped serious injury as heavy wheels passed over Hazel’s chest. Parents Mrs Leggett of Toledo and Mr Seeley’s kin grieved beside the injured child. The Michigan Grand Lodge F and A M adjourned to meet next year in Jackson with Francis D Clarke of Flint elected grand marshal and Charles E Sweet of Dowaging named acting grand master for two years.
