A quiet ceremony was held Tuesday at 4 pm at Rev. D. Cochlin’s home on Washington Street uniting Miss Flossie Louise Smith of Marine City and Harrison Vinton of this city. The couple left Wednesday for Williamsburg where the groom’s parents live. Mrs. Vinton is well known locally and Mr. Vinton works for the Boardman River Electric Light and Power Company and is active among local youth.
Elk Rapids January 18 In receivers hands the Elk Cement and Lime company may be reorganized on a firmer financial basis. The plant employs about 100 men and produces roughly 1200 barrels of cement daily with orders ahead to run for months. Receivers Robert Williams and C A Whyland of Chicago plan sale of the plant, aiming to keep operations going in the near term.
Lansing reports that the Knights of Pythias grand lodge learned last night its corporate existence expired a year ago and a defunct organization has been operating without authority. Officials say no serious fallout is expected and the charter will be renewed promptly.
A stockholders meeting Tuesday elected officers for the Boardman River Electric Light and Power company. President Samuel Garland and Vice President Charles Wilhelm were chosen, with A W Friedrich as secretary and L E Greilick as treasurer. Directors include Garland, Wilhelm, A V Friedrich, L E Greilick, Robert Caldwell, Mrs. Elsie R. Hannah, R. Floyd Clinch, and Frank Votruba.
Washington Jan 17 Senator Aldrich unveiled a banking revision plan that eschews a central bank and would create a Reserve Association of America as a federation of local associations formed by national banks. Each association would have at least ten member banks, operate in fifteen districts with 45 directors, and include six ex-officio federal officials. The plan envisions the association as government depository, with no interest on deposits, power to rediscount commercial bills, invest in U.S. bonds, handle gold, lend, and maintain foreign accounts. National banks would file weekly reports to the comptroller of the currency.
Lansing January 17 Senator Vanderwerp of Muskegon is preparing a bill to redistrict the states judicial circuits. The measure proposes eliminating nine judges and as many circuits and two plans are considered: reduce circuits only or form districts of five or six circuits each.
The secretary of the treasury submitted estimates for the fiscal year ending June 30 1912 for site purchases building construction and rental of temporary quarters for public buildings. Lansing authorities report that state charitable penal and reformatory institutions seek 2,689,339 for two years. The board approved 2,451,864 of requests and rejected 134,864. Disbursements for current expenses totaled 1,909,903 with an average annual population of 11,942 in 1910. Rejections include 8,564 for Kalamazoo asylum porch and 21,500 for Lapeer feeble minded home industrial building. Additional denied items cover Jackson prison engines and generator 15,000, 2,500 auto. Lind at Saginaw stock fund 10,009. Flint school vacuum cleaner 2,500.

Port Huron reports William and Herbert Walker two Port Sanilac fishermen spent nearly fifty hours on ice in Lake Huron before tugs Harding and Diver rescued them early today. William was uninjured while Herbert suffered frostbite to feet and an arm. Lifesavers came ashore unaided after twenty eight hours in the water.
