A Michigan State Grange gathering Thursday drew active participation with reports, discussions, and plans. Members from local chapters shared updates, welcomed visitors, and organized upcoming community events.
The Michigan State Grange faces a deep split as Baker Helme and Horton clash with Hull over report inclusion and attacks on N P Hull while debates over tonnage tax and a bid for next meeting city unfold. Balloting for officers continues amid tense negotiations and calls for harmony fade.
The Traverse City session of the Michigan State Grange featured debate on centralizing purchasing and a proposed central bureau for buyers and sellers. Delegates favored county options on temperance, adopted auto tax and rail rate recommendations, and lauded the week’s proceedings while supporting Oregon plan and direct senator election ideas.
Census figures list Traverse City at 42,115 residents, up 28.45 percent since 1900, Cadillac at 8,375 up 28.16 percent, and Manistee at 12,381 down 13 percent. Other Michigan cities like Adrian, Muskegon, Pontiac, and Port Huron are also reported with their 1900 and current counts.
Lost fingers in a Hayes bridge saw mill accident injure farmer Charles Nostrandt. Four fingers of his right hand were severed and his thumb mangled but no danger is expected. Also reports Wonotr lodge No. 3444 officers elected at Friday meeting with Gerald C. Edmunds as worshipful master and other appointed officers.
The annual meeting of the fifth group of the Woman's Auxiliary of the diocese of western Michigan took place at Grace Episcopal church on Wednesday December 18. Holy communion opened at 10 20 with an address on missions by Rev Freeman of Manistee. A 11 30 business session named officers led by President Mrs Thomas Smurth Waite with Luncheon at 12 20. Mrs Hume of Muskegon reported Cincinnati funds and a stereopticon lecture on The Growth of Christianity followed by Mrs J L Bailey.
