Probe Shifts to Indianapolis in Dynamite Case

Indianapolis wires report new evidence in the iron workers dynamiting probe. Ex Detroit official H S Hockin, now iron workers secretary treasurer, is linked to threats and explosions tied to non union labor. Detective Morgan traced a French Lick blast to Underwood with Hockin present, but Underwood remains at large.

Traverse City Favored as Next Hort Cult Meeting Site

E O Ladd returned Thursday from Ludington after attending the Michigan State Horticultural Society meeting. He said the gathering was one of the best ever with timely papers and valuable discussions for fruit growers. The next annual meeting place was not decided. Invitations went to Traverse City Kalama zo and another town. Kalamazoo was passed over due to prior meetings there. The final choice rests between Traverse City and the remaining town, with Traverse City favored.

Darrow Link Emerges in McNamara Case Trial

In Los Angeles on December 11 191?, the Darrow name surfaced during the Berta Hin trial for attempting to bribe juror GN Lockwood in the McNamara case. Lockwood testified Franklin said he must consult with Darrow before any bribe payment.

Needlework Party at Cook Home for Sixty Ladies

Mesdames A B Cook and G G Covell hosted a needlework party for about sixty women at 426 West Eighth Street. Readings by Miss Beulah Covell and vocal solos by Miss Ethel Gibbs delighted guests while light refreshments were served in the dining room. Hostesses Margaret and Dorothy Holliday managed the dining room as dark red carnations were handed out as favors.

District Grange holds winter meeting with officer slate

The Grand Traverse District Grange winter meeting opened Wednesday and closed at noon today. Officers were elected for two years including Master Calvin C. Spangler and Secretary Nellie Stone. Installations conducted by R H Elsworth with assistants. one representative chosen for state grange in Kalamazoo next week. March meeting planned for Williamsburg. Literary program featured talks on rural schools taxes and teacher quality with recitations admired by attendees.

December Meeting of the Brotherhood Held With Hospitality

The December gathering of the Brotherhood of the Congregational church drew many visitors and 86 seated for a bountiful meal prepared by the Ladies' Aid. President J. W. Patchin presided as toastmaster, with remarks on brotherhood in business and charity, notes from Rev. Demas Cochlin, and songs led by Dr. S. S. Smith and Helen Moore.

Adolphus Bowman Civil War Veteran Dies at 72

Adolphus Bowman aged 72 died Saturday evening at his home 76 East Eighth street after a brief illness. A Civil War veteran he belonged to MacPherson Post G A R in the city for years. He leaves a widow four daughters and three sons. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at his home under G A R auspices and the body was taken to Williamsburg for burial.

China Rebels Seek Constitutional Settlement Amid Turmoil

In Wu Chang and Pekin reports dated December 8, revolutionary leaders led by Li Yuen Heng seek a constitutional monarchy with Yuan Shi Kai or a capable Chinese ruler under a constitution and parliament if the people favor it. They fear bloodshed and await popular support to end the revolt. Subscriptions from Pekin officials with imperial salaries surface as rebels threaten dynamite. Manchu fears include pension losses and a rising threat to regents and regent's retirement.

Gleaners Endorse County Bond Plan for Roads

Flint Michigan December farmers gathering of about 700 members from Genesee county voted unanimously to bond the county for 500000 to build good roads. The group cited mileage cost savings and urged support, with backing from the board of commerce real estate board Grangers and Gleaners.

Farmers Institute at Buckley Emphatic Success

The two day Farmers Institute at Buckley finished with strong attendance and continued interest. A local organization formed with L. Cornell as manager and G A Brigham as secretary. A boys corn club and a girls vegetable club were created with liberal premiums. Exhibits and premiums to be awarded at the Buckley Fair on September 10 to 12, 1912. State Institute and Grange Lecturer to speak. Schools participated. closing reception hosted by business men. Local produce now aims for direct market with credited production to Michigan towns and grower credit. Western Michigan Development Bureau praised for stimulating interest.

Jury cases added to December circuit term record

The December term of the circuit court convened this afternoon and added several jury cases. Judge Mayne urged clearer calendars to avoid confusion as cases expanded. One criminal case, People vs Elmer Bence, will be tried. Saxtotn’s case was continued, Donkers will settle out, and nolle prosequi may follow. The Rochester Distilling Co. vs Traverse City Brewing Co. opens jury scrutiny. Wood vs Wood becomes a special order Tuesday evening. Four divorces were added: Robinsons, Dingmans, Holmes, and Kaleys.

Home Wedding in Leelanau County for Ada Krone and Arthur Sorensen

Ada G. Krone and Arthur P. Sorensen wed at the Krone home in Leelanau County with Rev. W W McKee officiating. Miss Martha Sorensen attended the bride and Lee Manigold acted as best man. A wedding dinner followed for close friends and relatives, and the couple will reside in Kingsley in a furnished home prepared for them.

Amicably Settled Aviator Retained for Winter Flights

Smith Aeroplane Co directors announce continuation of aviation work after settling accounts with subscribers. W C Hull offers refunds to dissatisfied subscribers. Death of Henry C. Smith Ex-Congressman and Lawyer

Henry C. Smith, aged 51, prominent Michigan lawyer and former congressman, died at 10 this morning from pneumonia after a brief decline. Born in New York, he lived in Lenawee county since age three, and served two terms after his 1898 election.

Eight Bodies Recovered From Mine Disaster

Rescue teams recovered eight bodies from the mine tragedy and search operations continue for possible survivors. Authorities say there may still be people trapped and crews persist with recovery efforts amid ongoing dangers.

Briceville December 11 rescuers had dug two miles into the mine this morning seeking survivors. Dr Holmes chief of the bureau of mines said there was a possibility men were alive in the far thermost parts where the explosion trapped between 150 and 200 workers. Eighteen bodies were recovered. Heat and furnace conditions hindered rescue efforts as authorities scrutinize who bears responsibility.

Solon boy suffers deep tongue wound after school play

Danny Gallivan seven, son of Mr and Mrs Mert Gallivan of Solon, was injured in a collision while playing pon pon pullaway after school yesterday. His tongue was badly lacerated when his teeth closed on it near the tip as he ran into older boys. He was brought to town for medical attention today.
