Maples City Aug 21 fire damaged the front room and basement of the Leelanau county poorhouse of unknown origin Saturday afternoon neighbors aided by volunteers saved the building promptly aided by D A Clevette who led the first fire crew Superintendent Craker Ed Wootey an employee of the farm and Frank Burkett a neighbor deserve credit for confining the blaze to a single room and basement despite suffocating smoke their efforts prevented the fine new structure from being destroyed.
