Four Van Zandt 4-Hers Top District Record Books

Four Van Zandt County 4-H'ers placed highly in district judging on August 20. Nancy Mallory, Teresa Weatherall, Lou Ann Gullett, and Brenda Burns led in Achievement, Public Speaking, Recreation, and Santa Fe respectively. district judges will forward the records to the State 4-H office for state judging. Van Zandt County had 19 records entered for district competition.

Van Zandt Singing Weekend at Creagleville Church

The East Van Zandt Singing Convention will be held this weekend at Creagleville United Methodist Church. Singing begins Saturday evening at 7 30 and resumes Sunday at 10 30 with a noon dinner on the grounds. Fletcher Smith urges attendance for both sessions and bringing a lunch. Watson Elected To Scott and White Memorial Hospital

W. Marvin Watson former Postmaster General and Johnson aide was elected to the Board of Trustees of Scott and White Memorial Hospital and Scott, Sherwood and Brindley Foundation in Temple. Scott and White, founded 1897, is among Texas' oldest medical centers. Watson serves as President and CEO of Occidental Petroleum Corporation and oversaw Occidental International with offices in 24 capitals.

The 1969 Grand Saline weather report notes April to August rainfall totaling 11 inches in spring and 1 inch in June, 1 inch in July, and none in August. July saw ten days at or above 100 degrees, peak 105. August had 12 days at 104 or higher. Year-to-date rainfall reached 25 inches, near normal. The worst year on record is 1954 with 63 days above 100 and 29.0 inches rain. no rain from June 2 to September 30, then 2.0 inches.

Corinth Baptist Church on Farm Road 1255 near Grand Saline hosts its annual Homecoming September 14 with morning services at 10 and 11 followed by a noon dinner on the grounds. Rev. Tom Hicks Celebrates 84th Birthday At Russell Insurance
