Money Needed Badly For Woodside Cemetery

The Woodside Cemetery finance committee appeals for immediate public donations to cover mowing and upkeep costs. Unlike other cemeteries, Woodside lacks a trust fund, so only contributions from friends and those with loved ones interred there can maintain the grounds. Creagleville to Build New Methodist Church

Rev. Thomas L. Jones announced at a June 13 church conference that Creagleville Methodist will erect a brick veneer church 32 by 60 feet, with construction awarded to local contractor Rev. Don Adams for 8770 dollars. Work starts soon. completion date to be set.

Van Zandt County Girls Win Ribbons at State Food Show

Two Van Zandt County 4 H Club members competed in the State 4 H Food Show at Texas A M University College Station June 7. Brenda Burns earned a blue ribbon for Broccoli AuGratia and Nancy Mallory won a red ribbon for Oatmeal Spir al Bread. Forty eight girls from twelve districts competed.

Rev. Sam McNeill of First Baptist Church Fruitvale praised a recent Vacation Bible School. He cited high day session attendance peaking at 72 with 51 in the evening for a total of 123, and a total offering just under 50 dollars.

Farmers Home Administration to Insure $184 Million in Rural Loans

The Farmers Home Administration will insure an additional 148 million in rural loans announced by Secretary Orville Freeman. The funds support 30 million in Farm Ownership loans and 118 million in Rural Housing loans for low and moderate income families. Local Riding Club To Sponsor Play Day In Grand Saline

Barney Trussell, president of the Grand Saline Riding Club, says the Play Day starts at 1 p.m. Saturday June 17 at the Rodeo Arena west of Grand Saline. Entry is $1 per event, with $10 entry and $6 cattle office charge for open cutting. A trophy is awarded to the open cutting winner. Fifty-six events are listed including Barrel Race and Pole Bending in several age groups, with several partner events.

Fruitvale Plans Annual Homecoming Sunday on campus

Plans call for Fruitvale's annual Homecoming on Sunday July 9 at the school campus with morning services at the Methodist Church 9 45 and Baptist Church 10 45 followed by lunch at noon on campus. Residents are urged to bring food and invite former residents and students.

Summer pre-registration opens for TJC fall term

Tyler Junior College announces summer pre-registration for fall term from June 19 to August 18. Students need an appointment beginning June 1, available via registrar’s office or phone. Kenneth Lewis notes early registration aids scheduling and program needs. Post cards go to high school seniors and TJC freshmen describing the process and admissions requirements, including a requirement for the American College Test for fall. If not yet taken, students may attend but must complete the test in October and meet test requirements before enrollment.

Grand Saline Rodeo distributes $1540 in prizes

The Sixth Annual Grand Saline Rodeo awarded over $1,540 in prize money to top finishers. Denny Gowan of Dallas won bareback bronc with 60 points, Roger Helms of Bullard took calf roping in 10.1 seconds, Cathy Coislegio of Fort Worth won barrel racing in 18.8 seconds, Bud Ogletree of Dallas captured bulldogging in 5.4 seconds, and Bryan Heflin of Wills Point won bull riding with 54 points. C. J. Jones of Dallas won the $300 roping saddle from a $1 donation. The club thanks many supporters for the success.

Gov John Connally signed a bill making Memorial Day a state holiday adding May 30 as a holiday for 1968. State offices observe 12 holidays plus election days with several other dates listed. Also notes additional state and federal closure days and a family visit in Richardson.
