Morton Salt Co. employees contributed $104.75 by Wednesday. funds may be mailed or given to Kuykendall. the Legion will canvass local businesses for support focusing on families with children.

A J Taylor age 85 former resident and cafe operator died Friday in a Wellington hospital. Survived by widow three sons Homer Temple Millard Belton and R C Taylor Lubbock and four daughters Kitty Warren Moshien Joan Taylor Pismo Beach and Coma Lee Robins Austin plus two step daughters Kath erine Bankless Lubbock and Margaret Bishop Biloxi and one sister Laula Allred Sunnyvale. Funeral services were held Sunday. He left Grand Saline about 30 years ago after 37 years in Collingsworth County.

Maxie Lee Russell Dies Friday Afternoon
Maxie Lee Russell aged 38 died Friday afternoon at his Grand Saline residence after three months illness. He served as master sergeant in Europe and Korea and was active in Army Reserves. He was buried Sunday after funeral at Creagleville Methodist Church with burial by veterans and survivors including his foster mother Mrs Thompson.

Mrs Oph Elia Brummett Rites Held In Grand Saline
Funeral services for Mrs Oph Elia Brummett of Route 4 Grand Saline were held November 14 at the Grand Saline Funeral Home Chapel. Rev H O Lee officiated. Burial was in Creagleville Cemetery. She died at home November 13 at age 59. She was a lifelong Van Zandt County resident born in Silver Lake, daughter of Joe Dickerson. Survived by husband J S Brummett, son Jessie Brummett, daughters Arlie Justice Geraldine Taylor Bertha Panaguidi, brother M M Dickerson, and two grandchildren. Pallbearers included Jake Dickerson Jerry Dickerson Terry Dickerson Billy Joe Darr Henry Lee Darr Herby Lee Darr Wright Ray Darr.

State inspectors criticized Grand Saline fire equipment and urged immediate replacement of the old Chevrolet pumper which failed a capacity test. They praised water works upgrades and called for flushing all hydrants every 90 days and installing new mains, valves, and raised hydrant at Garland and Spring Streets. Chief Perry Pugh said flushing is planned and a new truck could cost about 12000 dollars.
