Northwest Collegiate Institute Joins War Food Drive
The Northwest Collegiate Institute plans to close May 6 and urges boys and girls to assist on school and other farms to boost food production for next year. Students, under Mr Agnew, will farm plots, with girls helping in cooking and home duties. The school advertises a practical, affordable prep education and a chance to work toward tuition while contributing to the war effort.

WAR or NO WAR People Must Eat
To the man who wants eighty or one hundred sixty acres of rich farm land and is willing to put in his time and energy we not only offer to sell him the land at a low price on easy terms but will help him improve it by building a house and barn and assist him in clearing up five acres to start with. We not only say we will do these things but we are already doing them. It will not cost you anything to investigate. Write us a letter about choosing a farm home, as our business is to tell you the truth.

Heartfelt thanks to neighbors and friends
A brief note expresses gratitude to kind neighbors and friends for their aid during a recent bereavement. It reflects on human kindness and the idea that grace helps people get through life, though it notes many would starve without such assistance.
Press critique of Sunday papers and national service ethics
The piece contrasts national crisis response with editorial bias and class imagery. It notes Marshall Field as a private in a Chicago regiment, Theodore Roosevelt's son serving, and the reluctance of an average worker like Bill Jones to enlist. An Oshkosh editorial condemns Sunday paper excess, urging a wartime stand against trashy weekly sections and high paper costs.
