Samuel C G Carrington longtime Grand Rapids resident and engineer died at his west side home last Thursday after a lengthy illness at age 80. Survived by wife four daughters and two sons including Mrs Dougharty Mrs Panter Mrs Pearson Mrs Gardner Al Carrington and James Carrington. Funeral held Monday at his home with Rev T C Hanson of the Baptist church officiating.
The city of Wausau will source all slabs from Bleinemann Lumber for 1918 after a resolution by the common council. Mayor Marquardt announced the agreement, with cutting starting in January and a daily output of 50 to 60 slabs. About 9,000 to 10,000 cords yearly, split hardwood and softwood, will be sold green at cost plus distribution.
McKercher and Rossier Co advertises high grade balanced ration priced under current raw material costs. They state they bought feeds months ago and pass the advance in price to customers.

Beekeepers of the area will hold a meeting Thursday in Grand Rapids at Wood County Normal. Mr G C Matthews, special agent of the U S Department of Beekeeping, will discuss forming an organization. Benefits include material savings, standard pricing, crop reports, disease control, and cooperative queen distribution with the university.
Wisconsin sets 1918 auto licenses at ten dollars each with weight based fees for trucks and motorcycles four dollars, dealers licenses rising to twenty five. In 1917 about 170000 licenses issued, near two hundred thousand expected next year. 2100 dealers licensed this year, up 300. About 8000 motorcycles in use, similar to 1916. Applications for 1918 licenses accepted after December 15. Local notes report various residents traveling or ill, and a joke ends the item.

T M Case aged 80 died Wednesday from paralysis. Former Baraboo resident, father of Mrs Jones, had been living with Mr and Mrs Av Jones here. Remains taken to Baraboo for burial accompanied by Mr and Mrs Jones.

Frank A Gotch retired world heavyweight wrestling champion died at his Humboldt Ja home from araemic poisoning. Born April 27 1878 on a Humboldt farm he toured with a circus in 1976 health failed. He rose in wrestling twenty years ago meeting Dan McLeod and was tutored by Farmer Burns. He earned huge sums in Alaska and Chicago matches and defeated rivals including Hackenschmidt in 1911 to claim world title. He retired undefeated in 1915 leaving a vast fortune and four farms near Humboldt.
H. B. Tuttle of Valley Junction visited the Tribune Friday with specimens of a new apple variety he calls Wisconsin. He notes the fruit is colorful and flavorful with good keeping qualities, and emphasizes the trees resist die out in Wisconsin climate. Tuttle, already planting about five hundred trees, plans to propagate and sell more.
Jimmy Lavigne found a small black leather case in his confectionery store and feared an explosive device. Police determined it was a traveling grip belonging to Fred Ragan, left at the Greek’s place for pickup on the way to the train. The grip allegedly contained powder tied to siege defense, though not the standard war substance.

The collected tobacco totaled three barrels shipped to camp on Tuesday, with many responding to the appeal despite small individual costs.
On December 14 1917 J J Looze health officer Grand Rapids inspected Ernest Hall barns and found them sanitary and clean with milk satisfactory for town distribution. This confirms ongoing adherence to cleanliness and safety standards for dairy operations.
