Waterworks Dam Floods Salt Creek After Heavy Rain

Rain last Friday night filled the creek at Graham and caused the new dam on Salt Creek to overflow. Water backed up for about four miles along the crooked stream, five feet deep at Graves crossing near North Oak Street, forcing the closure of the road. The dam created a large body of water and is described as able to withstand any drought likely to occur.

The Fitzhugh Lee chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met at Dr and Mrs W F Morris residence last Thursday night. Members renewed interest in the organization, light refreshments were served, and attendees planned to meet regularly on the second Tuesday each month at F H Staffords during winter.

Narrow Escape For Wyndham Children At Creek

On a Sunday forenoon four of Rev H H Wyndham s children went to water the family horse at the creek end of North Oak street. They drove into the newly filled dammed stream and were carried across. The horse struggled to the bank while the children cried out. C L Cox Joe Rehder and Ray from the Rock Island pump station responded and rescued the unharmed youngsters, though all were soaked.
