A large Monday crowd from Graham's trade territory filled streets and shops. Cash sales topped expectations with 282 bales weighed, marking the biggest one day business since the peak crop year. Local social notes report a hail storm near Fort Worth and a major medical case at A and M College.
Arthur L. Smith and Ada May Shahan wed at the Shahan home in Henry Chapel with Rev. W W Noble officiating. The couple left for California to begin their life together. The Christian Church ladies served a dinner at the Court House on Big Monday, raising around seventy dollars for the church fund. R C Reeves recently returned from New Mexico after two years seeking health benefits and plans a brief Miller Bend visit before returning home via the West. He noted more arriving strangers than since 1884.
Mr. Oscar Long of Fort Worth and Miss Lula Goode of this city wed in Fort Worth on Wednesday October 9 and depart for Los Angeles California to spend the winter. Also notes Rally Day services at the Presbyterian Church attended by J M Taylor wife and daughter and Misses Robbins. W F Tiffin forecasts twenty five bales of cotton but expects five bales short of his 1908 crop though pleased with gas crop. A New York championship game report reached at four this afternoon, delayed by darkness.
About eight autos carried Grahamites to the W O W box supper Saturday night at Red Top. Sixteen Graham team members attended along with many outsiders. One lead car broke down near the bridge delaying the group about thirty minutes but otherwise the event was a jolly success.
Good crowds have attended nightly showings at the opera house this week with Wednesday off. The films are good and the new lens provides a clear picture. A daily show with special music is planned for the season, excluding Wednesdays.
Willis Stewart, former Graham boy and coach of Texas Christian University football, sees his team as a winner after a 20 to 0 victory over Southwestern University. He lists several games ahead and expects most to end in victory. Our boys’ athletic progress brings satisfaction.
The first Lyceum Course number arrived too late to connect by rail and missed the night’s performance. The W. C. T. U. called it a disappointment, though the next speaker, Harry Bowser, is billed for November 8 with topics on fun and humor and questions of brains, brawn or blood.
The local W C T U prepares a program for World Temperance Sunday on November 10 with pastors lay leaders and musicians contributing A free will offering will be taken and all are invited The day calls for sermons prayers rallies and pledge signing to promote total abstinence and end intemperance The full program plan will be announced next week
