New Domestic Arts Department Installed at Graham High
Graham High School begins a new domestic art or household economics program funded by the community. Superintendent Cogdell and Chamber of Commerce Secretary Walker report five sewing machines and equipment secured with no extra cost to the school board. Thirty seven girls enrolled and a high school teacher will lead the class as the program starts this year.

Good Rains Bring Reprieve to Young County Farmers
This week's heavy rainfall ends the drought in Young County. Two inches fell over Tuesday and Wednesday, improving cotton prospects and filling tanks. Wheat planting may be lighter due to high cotton prices, while cattlemen welcome the moisture for pastures though late frost could limit grass.

G. W. Bishop Killed Near Graham
G. W. Bishop was killed near his Graham home early Monday and buried Tuesday in Oak Grove Cemetery. Dr. C. R. Taylor led funeral services at the Graham Baptist church. He had lived in Graham most of 15 years, built Bishop addition, and leaves a wife and eight children. He was regarded as an upright citizen.

Reed Simmson Marriage Surprise Ties City to Wichita Falls
Lud Reed surprised friends by obtaining a marriage license and eloping with Hazel Simpson. The couple married at Jean with Rev Miller officiating and spent Sunday in Olney. Hazel is the daughter of the Simpsons of Banger. Lud is son of R L Reed of East Fourth Street Graham. They reside with the Reeds on East Fourth Street.

Pioneer Citizen John F. Orrell Dies in Graham
John F. Orrell, a Graham pioneer since 1878, died Sunday before 4 am from an enlarged heart. Born April 10 1849 in Indiana, he served in the Civil War, married Isa Bell Colclasure in 1868, and lived in Gatesville before settling in Graham. He leaves eight surviving children and numerous grandchildren. Funeral at his residence with Odd Fellows honors at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Dowdle Volunteers for Yokohama Disaster Relief
John Ed Dowdle, after hospital training in San Francisco, volunteered to aid the Yokohama disaster relief effort in Japan. He was placed in command of a relief corps in a thermaceutical department and sailed for the base hospital in Japan on September 6. His Graham friends recall he left Graham for California months ago. The Royal Arch Chapter of Masons will hold a meeting Friday night in the hall on the west side of the square.

The Graham High School football team defeated Jacksboro 24 to 6 last Saturday. Graham led 14 points in the first quarter, added two more in the fourth, and used second-string players after the early advantage. Bridgeport forfeited to Graham, Decatur to visit, and fans are urged to attend Friday’s game at 4 pm with the band inflating the atmosphere.

Death in Graham Truck Scene Stuns North Texas
G. W. Bishop was shot to death in his truck near the Four Gable Garage west of Graham. H. C. Walker, proprietor of the garage, was arrested after a Monday morning claim that he involved a debt dispute. An examining trial led to no bail set for Walker. Witnesses described a brief argument followed by three shots, two fatal. Mrs. Bishop and a young son were among those at the scene as neighbors assisted before the body was moved to the home nearby. Bishop had lived in Graham for about fourteen years
