O D Lisle reports a cotton patch planted with wide rows produced over 2400 pounds of seed cotton per acre, while traditional planting underperformed. Credit also due to Mrs Lisle for the strong crop.
The commissioners court adjourned Thursday as three new county officers took oath and bond. They are B. W. King as county superintendent, Co. F. Marshall as county attorney, and J. T. Hunt as county commissioner for Semantee 3. R. J. Johnson had served the county from his precinct and was praised as an excellent officer.
Last Friday McGlamery and Bentley of Eliasville sent a car weighing 37 542 pounds of pecans to H M Reed and Co in Austin. Thirteen wagons carried them and 334 sacks were counted. They also bought a car of pecans at Graford for shipment on December 15. Young County now boasts a top pecan crop aiding local finances and elevating the county in northern markets.
Mrs. L. B. Kidwell hosted the Priscila Club with homemade candy for members and guests including Mesdames Richelberger Bowman W. C. Bell Q. Street Will Norman Christy B E Graham Kidwell Dot Graham Appoline Dow and Corrine Gallaher. Future meetings and local visits noted along with an anniversary dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Fisher. Prices on ladies suits coats and coats advertised by 8S. B. Street & Co.
H Hill formerly of this city now residing in Graford was brought to Dallas early this month for an operation. Doctors decided his age and serious illness make survival unlikely. He will stay in a Dallas sanitarium for three weeks receiving medical attention, with relief from pain the only hopeful outcome.
The Texas Cleanest Town Contest ties in first second and third class require reinspection led by Dr. Carrick. Brownwood and Gainesville vie for 500 dollars top prize for towns 4000 to 10000. Second prize 300 dollars to Ballinger Gonzales New Braunfels. second class. Hico Hubbard McGregor Memphis tied for 200 dollars. Freeman dead. Graham constable and fire marshal E P Freeman buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Funeral conducted by Dr R C Taylor. He leaves wife four children.
Watt Mayes underwent an operation Monday in which his injured left leg was amputated. The procedure was very successful and he remains in guarded but improving condition. A. J. Wheat of Loving tended to repairs on his South Elm Street home. County Clerk D. D. Queenbury issued a single marriage license this week. S. E. Pritchard has returned from a southeast Texas trip with her brother Thomas Tyson of Ansonville North Carolina seeking health and family visits. Tyson reports health improvement after the journey.
Mr and Mrs N E Gass depart Graham for Hereford Texas after weeks with Mrs Gasss parents Mr and Mrs F Herron. Mr Gass praised Graham s citizenship and robust trade in various lines especially mercantile commerce where he is a Hereford merchant.
Newman came from near South Bend and paid The Leader a substantial call. Carl says he was in the belt recently hit by a hail storm and, though he made nine bales, he lost some cotton and the price for the cotton gathered off the ground. He plans to move soon to the Bunger community.
