The Graham event drew a smaller crowd than usual as farmers stay in fields to plant and weed. Rainy weather and a cold norther hindered attendance, with traders hoping for July trades and fearing June events will lag behind typical weeks.
The U D C Chapter of this place expresses gratitude to W C Groner of Loving for securing subscriptions from local citizens toward a monument in Graham courtyard. They also thank the contributors who are named in the notice.
J W McAlister now West Texas Manager for Bowmen Lumber Company based in Fort Worth arrives in Graham with ties to Young County. locals greet him as he conducts business and handles scores of matters during the visit.
A group of young people enjoyed a picnic and luncheon by moonlight in Violet Park last Saturday night. Attending were Vera Gatlin Louvella Eddleman Eloise Morrison Eileen Henry Kate Arnold Mary Ellen Burkett Lottie Bell Wallace Neweta Flint Beulah Bell Gordon Durham Jim Porter George Predeaux Bryan Hall J W Akin Sherrill Norris and J C Rickman. They were chaperoned by Mrs J E Norris Miss Pearl Matthews and Lorena Wallace.
The Ladies Aid Society met on Thursday evening May 7 with Grandma Washburn. Sixteen members, three visitors, and eight children attended. The group planned refreshments as a surprise for Granny, who prepared two cakes. The May 14 meeting will be with Mrs. McGowan on the keyword Riches.
A community picnic is scheduled for Thursday at the Reu won grounds under the auspices of Weedne and Odd bellows of Elasville Program. It will begin promptly at 10 week. All are invited to attend with well filled baskets. T. R. Billingsley, secretary committee.
Miss Elsie May Sadberry daughter of Mr and Mrs John Sadberry died at the family home eight miles south of Graham on May 6 after a nearly three month illness. Her remains were brought to Graham and laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery Thursday evening. The bereaved family earnestly receives the sincere sympathy of our people in their sorrow.
The first free open air band concert of the season will be held at Court House Park tomorrow night starting at 8 30. The program will be short and under an hour with few new pieces. Everyone is invited and parents are urged to quiet their boys compared with last year.
The Norris Johnson Hardware Co showcased a Deering Binder powered by electricity attracting a crowd at the store front during harvest season opening. Joe Johnson visited from Jean to buy a binder for his small grain crop as rain benefits ripen grain.
Bro Stallings reports from Gainesville Texas on May 12 1914 enjoying the State Missionary Convention and announcing a report at the regular 1 o'clock service. All church members are urged to attend and everyone is invited.
Mr. Charlie Neuhouse died at his daughter Mrs. J L Clark’s Briar Branch home last Sunday and was buried beside his wife in Fort Belknap cemetery at 3 30 Monday. He was born in York in 1832 and came to Young county in 1858 helping blaze pioneer roads and foster citizenship. He did not belong to a church but lived by the golden rule and is survived only by his daughter.

Heirs Large Sam F Herron of this county traces lineage to Sir Francis Drake through his grandmother Mrs Rachal Drake born in Nashville. Herron born in 1848 in Tennessee, moved to South Texas in 1867, married Mary L Dalton in Palo Pinto in 1877. He served as Confederate soldier, State Ranger in 1876, and county commissioner of Young county in 1893-4, the sole survivor still living.
Born Wednesday May 13 a boy to Mr and Mrs Fred Adair. H G Arnold and family of Bay City visiting relatives and old friends. D G Vick and Mrs Vick visit Finis with Vick's parents. J M Morton, son of Wilt Morton, suffered a nail injury to the foot but is improving with medical care. Sia of Jacksboro rents Carroll Studio and opens a salon here.
Graham High School defeated Loving High School last Friday with a close score. Johnson starred as pitcher, fanning three in a bases loaded situation. Hall made a notable running catch as the town boys game went 4 to 3 against the High School, a near season best. An upcoming exhibition with proceeds for the Confederate Monument fund is planned Friday.
