The Sunday School Baseball league opened with Baptists losing 7 6 to Methodists. Christians beat Presbyterians 14 3, and Presbyterians fell 12 7 to the Methodists. The league seeks funds via hats passed at games to cover park repairs and equipment.
The Young County Trustees Association will hold its Spring meeting in Graham on Saturday afternoon May 19 in the district courtroom if available, else the high school auditorium. Invitations go to all county trustees and attendance is expected. A roundtable discussion will let each trustee raise questions and discuss educational needs for the Legislature. Superintendent Avants, active in Young County schools, has completed two school visits this year.
Miss Monte Rose Bowron of Loren zo, niece of F H Bowron, has been chosen to represent Lorenzo in the West Texas Chamber of Commerce pageant to be held in San Angelo soon. She will be known as Lady Lorenzo in the pageant.
Mr. A. D. Stewart advances cemetery work with funds raised so far, aims to level the newly added five acres, and plans to sell plots to cover costs. Five to six workers have prepared the site and painted the existing fence, with over $1,000 already spent on fencing and ditching.
The list of drivers for the auto show at Graham ball park on Friday includes Miss Alice Graham Franklin and many others driving makes such as Cadillac Studebaker Buick Lincoln Dodge and Ford. The committee expects additional entries before Friday and the Lions Club invites interested entrants to call local dealers or club members. After the show the town’s Graham Breckenridge Lions baseball game will be played with Dr Spencer's High School Band providing music at 2 50 pm.
Pearl Steen and Miss Kate Fields have returned home after several days in Griffin hospital. Miss Fields underwent an operation and Mr Steen endured an infection from stepping on a nail.
Committee in charge of a free barbecue on the Eichelberger ranch near Jean on May 16 says preparations are complete for the largest event since the seven year celebrations began. Five beeves plus bread pickles coffee and ice water are donated. Everyone is invited to bring a basket and enjoy the day on the site of the historic Indian fight.
Mrs. A. T. Barrett Neal Barrett Bud Price and Curtis Dickenson returned from Austin after a enjoyable trip by car Curtis Dickenson won first place in the 220 yard dash at the State athletic meet in Austin last Saturday.
Curtis Dickenson of Graham High School won the 220 yard dash at the State Interscholastic Athletic Meet in Austin, clocking under 23 seconds. He missed the 100 yard dash due to a regulation misunderstanding but is praised as a natural athlete with a strong high school record and expected to excel in college.
T. E. Bailey, owner of the Star Printing Company, became ill suddenly today and was taken to a local hospital where he is reported resting comfortably as the edition goes to press.
Miss Emily Padgett visited Wichita Falls over the weekend, seen in town for a short stay. Residents noted her appearance and local observers reported her activities during the visit.
Graham Mayor Stinson proclaims a clean-up week with the last three days dedicated to the effort. residents urged to place rubbish in alley receptacles for removal, prevent breeding of flies and mosquitoes, and cooperate with civic groups to keep streets, yards, and parks tidy.
The annual chamber meeting at the Methodist church basement drew nearly 200 for a banquet served by Frank Broxson. Officers and Civic League and Graham Fire Department guests praised cooperation and heard calls for needed city projects including a library and hospital, with directors elected for the coming year.
The Graham Mill and Elevator Company’s ice department nearly doubles capacity this season. Three 26 ton Frick machines operate to meet local and out of town demand, with extensive purification, a 150 ton storage room, and a 300 pound block system. Chief Engineer George Collins notes around thirty employees support summer operations.
J. W. Allen and his family moved to Grand Saline last week to establish a new home. Allen, longtime manager of the Western Union in Graham, is no longer with the company and has taken up other work. His friends regret losing him as a Graham citizen.
