The Martin No. 1 of Panhandle resumes drilling at 2 600 feet two miles north of Eliasville, while Ross et al drill Cotton survey test two miles west.

Local Contests Here Last Week
The Junior Declamation contest at the Graham high school produced winners Robert Franklin Jones for the boys and Lillian Duncan for the girls. They represented Graham in the county contest at Newcastle. The Senior Declamation contest had five boys and four girls. Nat Price Jr and Miss Maggie Long won and received gold medals from First National Bank and Guarantee State Bank of Graham. They also advanced to the county contest in Newcastle last Saturday.

Congressman Lucian Parrish Dies After Auto Injury
Congressman Lucian Walton Parrish of Texas Thirteenth District died in Wichita Falls after injuries from a March 15 automobile crash near Roby. A former UT athlete and longtime public servant, Parrish had pursued a Senate bid and died following a prolonged illness after meningitis.

Interscholastic League Meet Held at Newcastle
Despite bad roads the Interscholastic League field day and literary contests at Newcastle drew large crowds and good sportsmanship. Stowe of Olney led senior track with 25 points, West had 20, while junior stars included Hawkins brothers and Jack Claridy. Declamation crowned Newcastle’s Della Anderson and Eliasville’s Stella McCan, with numerous rural and town winners across divisions.
