Volunteers report ongoing progress at Oak Grove Cemetery as 19 new pledges arrive. Donors include numerous named individuals and businesses from Wichita Falls and surrounding areas, reflecting broad community support for funding the cemetery expansion.
The C L S C met at Mrs Harris home on Wednesday February 27 with seventeen members answering roll call Great Americans. Mrs Harris directed a tour of America starting in Colorado then Arizona California and other stops presented by various members including Mrs Dowdle Miller Morrison Hockaday Penix and Binnion. Limited time prevented further stops.
The North Texas Agricultural College band from Arlington Texas directed by L W Caine gave a concert at the local high school auditorium last Friday night under city auspices. The band rendered excellent music and left a favorable impression though a car problem kept them from performing on the square in Graham. The Texas Supreme Court denied a writ of error and upheld a Clay County road bond plan for a 32 mile concrete main road and 60 miles of graveled laterals. The decision affirms the civil appeals court ruling and ends years of court battles over the bond issue supported by a strong voter majority.
Judge John C Kay of Wichita Falls presides this week in the 380th district court handling civil and criminal matters. Local filings and proceedings are scheduled as part of his courtroom docket.
The $650000 bond proposal in Road District No 1 was defeated last Saturday. A county wide road bond was defeated on January 12. After the defeat Road District No 1 was created and an election set for March 1 with unofficial returns reported from most boxes.
Mr. Fred T. Arnold gave a fine address last Sunday at the Graham Baptist Church on the progress of religion. He leads the Men's Bible Class at the Liberty Theatre each Sunday morning and is a valued member of the local church.
One of the best musical programs ever heard in Graham will be given at the National Theatre tonight at 8 o clock. The famous artist appears under the auspices of the Graham Lions Club and deserves liberal patronage from local patrons.
The Retail Merchants Association held a banquet at the Capitol Hotel with over seventy members present. President S. B. Street presided, speeches highlighted association service and community betterment, and Don's Syncopaters provided music. The group, active about one year in Graham, is affiliated with state and national bodies and aims to support local members. Officers include S. B. Street president and W. D. McFarlane secretary-treasurer. directors list multiple names.
The Woman's Missionary Society of the First Christian Church stages A Dream of Queen Esther in the high school auditorium at 8 p m on Thursday March 13. Mrs John B Rhea directs with forty city talents and notable musical numbers. Admission 35 and 50 cents.
The Young County Teachers Association holds its fourth meeting of the year in Olney at 8 p.m. in the old school auditorium. Invocations and short pupil performances are planned, with talks by A. A. Cooper and H. H. Avants.
The Graham Ex-Students Association of the University of Texas held its annual banquet on March 3 at the Capitol Hotel honoring Texas Independence Day. Fred T. Arnold presided, a rights of officers elected for the next year, and guests included Mrs. Morrison and Mrs. Slaughter’s relatives.
Thomas Elmore Lucey, renowned poet, actor, singer and humorist, will headline a moving recital at the Graham High School auditorium next Monday night, March 10, under the American Legion and High School Association. Admission 35 and 50 cents.
Mr. C. F. Marshall spoke to the Graham Chapter of DeMolays on American Citizenship. He is a young community supporter who shared a clear message about the subject and its many facets for boys and young men.

Mr. T. M. Corbett, respected stockman, brings five year old registered Hereford bulls to Graham today and tomorrow. He will ship them to Fort Worth for the Fat Stock show Saturday. Corbett has attended many shows and runs 5000 acres of pedigreed Herefords with one Durham milk cow. He, Ware, and other stockmen plan to attend the Fat Stock Show in Fort Worth next week.
At a school board meeting I T Gilmer was chosen to succeed H B Cogdell as Graham public schools superintendent. Gilmer, previously Gulfport superintendent, accepted after board unanimity. He holds an A B from the University of Mississippi and a law degree, and vows to maintain Graham's high school standards.
J W Akin Jr of Wichita Falls and formerly of Graham was struck on the side by a heavy pipe on a standard oil rig at the Griswold lease near Holliday Sunday afternoon. He was carried to General Hospital in Wichita Falls where an X ray showed only a severe sprain, not broken ribs.
The Whitehead Graham well No. 1 east of the city limits struck sand at 4260 feet and has been flowing by heads with no storage yet erected. Estimates range from 1000 to 5000 barrels. the bit is inches in the sand and early production prospects are optimistic despite hole-shaping precautions. Oil tests high gravity at about 41, worth $2.35 a barrel, drawing significant oil-field interest and ongoing leasing. Other wells and drills nearby are reported with various prospects across Graham, Herron City, and Palo Pinto County as rigs move in.
Mrs. John B. Wood assisted by Mrs. Francis presents a recital at the high school auditorium Friday night March 14 with about one hundred children from ages three to high school taking part. The program features drills and songs and special numbers, with a small admission charged to benefit the school.
