Lions Club of Graham brings Axel Skovgaard the renowned Danish concert violinist and his pianist wife to the National Theatre on Thursday March 6 at 8 30 pm. Proceeds benefit Victory Park with planned electric lighting and rest facilities. Reserved seats available at Ramsey Drug Company.
Elaborate preparations have been made by the Capitol Hotel and the Retail Merchants Association for the big banquet tonight. A good program has been arranged with music and short speeches. The Capitol Hotel will handle the menu and special orders have been placed. Officers include S. B. Street as president and Co. I. Kuykendall as vice president, with a long listed slate of directors.
Dr. J. B. Tidwell of Baylor University delivered two strong Bible sermons at the Baptist Church on Sunday. In the evening he shared highlights from his summer trip to the Holy Land, entertaining a large congregation while staying with Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Tidwell.
Former students of Texas University will hold their annual banquet at the Capitol Hotel next Monday night. All ex-students and residents of Young County are urged to attend the Capitol gathering Monday night.
Mr J B Foster candidate for sheriff visited Graham yesterday meeting local men. He has long been a citizen of the True community and spoke on his qualifications and plan.
Road District No. 1 voters will decide a $650,000 bond on Saturday March 1 for building the F F F Highway from the county line near Bryson to Graham Newcastle Olney and to Archer County line and the Southwest Trail through Graham Newcastle Olney to the Archer line. The plan includes state aid ratios and local matching funds and details precinct by precinct. An advisory committee will be named if the bond carries and the County Judge report on nearby counties is cited.
The Style Shop a new millinery and ready to wear ladies store opens in the Land Office building rear of the Guaranty State Bank by Mrs. E N Jerry. High grade specialties for ladies will be carried and Mrs Jerry brings wide experience in this line. She also opens The Home Craft Exchange inviting Graham ladies to learn about it.
The Leader reports Judge Walter F. Schenck has authorized announcing his candidacy for re election to the District Judge seat of the 92nd court. The official announcement will run in the next issue.
The McMurtry Motor Company, formerly Graham Buick, relocates to the Robinson building on the east side of the square. Mr. McMurtry highlights ample display space for Buick cars and accessories and invites customers to visit the new, well arranged showroom.
Dr. C. C. Clingman of Comanche will preach at the First Christian Church Sunday. He was called to the church recently and the congregation hopes he will accept. Mrs. Clingman will accompany him Sunday.
The article reports strong community support for Oak Grove Cemetery upkeep led by Mr. A. D. Stewart. Nearly twenty pledges have arrived since the last issue, with many local families and businesses contributing to the fund to keep grounds in fine order year round.
The Ligon-Daniels Post of the American Legion elected Allen Freeman as post commander P S Phillips and W W Martin as vice commanders Richard Taylor as adjutant Stanley H Peavy as finance officer and George Armstrong as sergeant at arms. Refreshments followed the meeting and members expressed optimism for the year ahead. Ex service men in the county are invited to attend regular meetings at the K of P Hall.
Mrs. W. A. Morris traveled to Fort Worth at the start of the week to attend a recital at Texas Christian University given by her daughter Miss Martha Mae.
A letter from Hill County officials recounts 1919 road bond votes, investigations, indictments, and later improvements. It notes 125 miles of gravel roads, 40 miles of paved highways, two miles of concrete roads, six underpasses, and passes a snow storm test, with mention of officials and a contractor.
Hillsboro Mirror editor J. C. Butts argues Hill County gained value from road bond funds despite graft concerns. He cites a Malone district vote of 276 to 113 approving $150,000 in road bonds and highlights extensive countywide highway work and major state and federal aid.
Mr J H Boone died at Eliasville last Thursday February 2 and was buried Saturday at two o'clock. Rev R K McCall pastor of the Presbyterian Church conducted the services after which the I O O F of which he was a member took charge of the remains. The Graham lodge of Odd Fellows was represented by R G Taylor W H Orrell W F Taylor and S J Allen.
