In Graham the Sunday School Baseball League sees the Methodists top the first half after a 5 to 4 win over Presbyterians. Baptists and Christians traded wins, with Baptists beating Christians 1 to 0 and Presbyterians 3 to 2 over June 8. The second half opens July 4 with a Methodist-Baptist doubleheader.
Mr Eugene Mallow of McKinney is now with his brother in the Mallow Old Corner Drug Store.
Eliasville s famed picnic site plans two day event next Wednesday and Thursday with visitors from Graham and rodeo performers arriving from across the country. The Clear Fork area offers shaded fishing grounds and old fashioned hospitality with all features prepared for guests comfort.
A Thursday night test at Exide Battery Station showcased a $200 radio set to be awarded by the Retail Merchants Association on July 3. F B Hocker directed the demo while C I Kuykendall urged farmers to own radios to stay connected with markets and current events.
Dr. C R Taylor of Graham and Rev Joe R Mayes of Fort Worth lead a tent revival on North Oak Street this week with plans to move westward next week. Attendance is affected by heat but interest remains high with several conversions and restorations recorded. Mayes leads day singing while Taylor preaches at night assisted by Earp Music Company piano.
Dr. M H Chism returned Friday from Huntsville where he attended his daughter Miss Aytchie Chism's wedding to Mr F A McCray of the Huntsville Normal. The couple left for an extended trip across the United States after the ceremony. He says the trip was enjoyable.
The Shawnee Park concert Sunday featured the High School band under Joe Lee Matthews with a large crowd in attendance. Local support from the Chamber of Commerce and others is expected to fund weekly performances, promoting wholesome town entertainment and regional appeal.
Sheriff Cambern and deputies confiscated a large still brought from Eliasville country. One man was arrested and rye whiskey choc beer and other intoxicants were seized. H. S. McCready of Eliasville assisted in the capture. The sheriff vows to continue enforcing laws across the county.
S. T. Needham of the Knox Criswell place eight miles southwest of Graham, Salem community, brought several Red Field Beauty tomatoes to the office. A cluster of three weighed nearly one and a half pounds, highlighting Needham’s energetic farming and bountiful crop.
The Ingleside Baptist Encampment on the Ingleside Ranch near Orth Texas held its first annual meeting with large turnout from Graham and other areas. Evangelist J. G. Winsett spoke last Sunday along with Mrs. E. M. Francis and Dr. J. D. Sandefer. The program included a B Y P U segment directed by Miss Mary Terry and daily services this week. Several state denominational leaders appeared, with thousands expected for Sunday closing events. Hosts Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Jeffery welcomed attendees on the Ingleside ranch.
Archie Newby twenty four from Wild Bend section suffered pelvic fractures and chest injuries when the horse he rode fell on him while driving cattle. He was treated at Alex Stringer’s home and in an ambulance after the accident last Saturday. an X-ray confirmed the injuries.
B. W. King and family returned last week from a southern tour visiting Galveston San Antonio and other cities. Mr King mused on where a person might prefer to live reflecting racial and regional views. C. W. Hinson and family accompanied the trip but came back earlier in the week. They traveled by car.
The weather has been dry and sunny for over two weeks and threshers are busy across the country. Yields exceed expectations with oats in one field pushing beyond 100 bushels per acre. Corn needs rain soon to avoid a light crop while other feeds look healthy and a good rainfall could improve corn yields. County agent reports forthcoming in next issue.
The Graham Retail Merchants Association held a meeting to outline plans for the Big Day on July 3. Prizes include a Buick car a $200 radio a steel kitchen cabinet and a Victrola. The drawing occurs at 4 30 p m next Tuesday is the last day to enter. A July 8 program features a band and a Breckenridge baseball team. Ice water shade parks and packed crowds are anticipated for Graham’s largest trades day.
Cupid was busy as two couples, Frank Slater and Carrie McClure, and Clint Rutherford and Mary McClure, wed in Loving and Red Top areas. The brides are sisters and the weddings drew many friends for congratulatory well wishes.
The Sunday School Baseball League resumes next Tuesday with a double header at 8 o clock. The Baptists and Methodists play first followed by the Christians and Presbyterians. No admission charged and all are invited to Graham baseball park for two games starting at 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon July 4.
Mr. E. G. Christie of the Christie Realty Company Olney Texas toured Graham Monday and said another well came in Sunday and that everything is looking good in the Olney country indicating early oil activity and positive prospects.
The Leader recounts a June 26 parade in Graham with an estimated ten to twelve thousand attendees and 2,500 to 3,000 robed Klansmen. Barbecue feeds for over 250 visitors preceded the event. The march traveled from North Elm Street to Fourth and Oak, then around the square before dispersing near the depot.
D. D. Bowman of Young county pleaded guilty to passing raised $10 bills, receiving one year and a day in Leavenworth plus a $100 fine. Judge H. H. Axtell set the penalty. Frank McDowell, ex banker from Graham, had his bond raised from $7,500 to $15,000 on an embezzlement indictment against national bank funds.
A protracted meeting starts Saturday night at the brick church on Second and Grove streets. Elder J. S. Hall, a well known Graham preacher, will lead the services and has preached here before. The congregations look forward to hearing him begin Saturday night.
The town of Graham gears up for a major event on July 3, with plans likely to draw residents and visitors to townwide activities and festivities. Local officials indicate coordinations are underway to ensure a successful celebration.
