The county reports good crop conditions with small grain being harvested and threshing soon. Wheat and oats yields range from ten to twenty bushels and twenty to thirty five per acre, aided by better prices. Corn and cotton look fine but rain would help. The county board of examiners held a large session, nineteen applicants, with fourteen seeking State certificates.
The Firemen's Band performs a free open air concert in Court House Park from 8:30 to 10:00 PM. Admission is free for the public with a program yet to be arranged but expected to match past free evenings.
The Methodists celebrate improved church interiors with cork lino flooring and new carpet for the choir pulpit and chancel. The Christian Church marked Parents Day with plans for a Children’s service next Sunday. The Presbyterian minister said Sunday that if conditions stay favorable there may be no protracted meeting this summer.
T K Criswell said he finished threshing forty acres of wheat and averaged twenty five and one half bushels per acre. He noted the grain tested at the Graham mill.
The county Sunday school convention will be held in Graham beginning Monday night June 24 and lasting the 25th and 26th. The program will appear next week. It is hoped every school in the county will plan to send a large delegation. J. J. Morarson visited from Newcastle Tuesday.
Monday night revival at the Baptist Church concluded after two weeks of services. Five were baptized that evening and several others joined by letter. Reverend Taylor delivered strong sermons including How Shall I Escape If I Neglect So Great Salvation. Heaven was the Sunday morning topic. Fifteen added to the church in all, with much credit due to active church members.
J W Morgan of Comanche County near Low killed himself with a pistol last Saturday evening after suffering a long mental decline. Witnesses said he asked to shoot rabbits for soup and the gun fire ended his life, with an inquest confirming a heart wound and instant death. Also notes Sam Dowdle’s fishing and trap invention with a successful test catching fish and then opossums.
Notice to county Democratic Executive Committee members to attend the regular meeting Monday June 17 at 2 PM for important matters. Also notes L. P. Brooks visited yesterday to seek a man to bale his wheat straw.
The Graham waterworks project advances with a concrete foundation finished by contractor John H. Wood and crew. The 33 by 44 foot structure will enclose pumps engines and an additional boiler, replacing the old building to improve service and fire protection for the city. Trades Day drew a smaller crowd as farmers thresh and candidates spoke, yet town mood remained positive about local progress and public utility.
Mrs. R. H. Hashall of Pine Bluff visits sister Mrs. H. C. Fields. M. F. Jones of Granbury Texas spends the first of the week visiting his son Olle Jones. Postmaster J. T. Cunningham leaves for Fort Worth to meet his wife visiting daughter Mrs. N. A. Cropp in Brownwood.
Reports say the G T and W railway will extend from Jacksboro to Salesville on the Weatherford Mineral Wells and Northwestern line. Arrangements aim for trains to run over Texas and Pacific tracks from Weatherford into Fort Worth. Extensions Seymour to Benjamin would connect with the Kansas City Mexico and Orient opening western territory to Fort Worth. Benefits expected for northern Young county with western access.
The record lists attendance and offerings for June 9 across denominations. Methodist had 262 attendees and offerings of 7.90, Baptists 234 with 13.57, Christians 225 with 6.67, and Presbyterians 140 with 56.10.
