In Hi dalgo County a planned attack on the courthouse failed in a comic clash. Commander Headly and Commander McCabe led rival factions toward Edinburg, the county seat, but a gun misfire wounded McCabe and their forces broke into retreat. A deputy posse of twenty five captured seventeen belligerents while the leaders fled toward Mexico.
