Alliam Graves died yesterday morning at the home of his son J. L. Graves in Graham. The 80 year old Alabama native was a Primitive Baptist and Civil War veteran. He will be buried at Oak Grove Cemetery at 10 this morning. He leaves two sons and one daughter in Texas and Oklahoma.
Memphis based Senator W A Johnson announces bid for a second term as State Senator of the 29th District. He notes authoring several laws including the pool hall statute upheld by the Supreme Court and urges continued Democratic support for his reelection.
An offer to renew subscriptions to The Leader promises four magazines for one year at a total price of 18 cents, encouraging readers to renew their subscrip tion.
In late January the Tax Collector logged busy poll tax payments across precincts. The county total voting strength reaches 2307 after 109 exemptions mostly tied to the Graham box. The Leader urges subscribers to renew and adds a four‑magazine one‑year offer for 18 cents more.
Mr Crawford died at his brother 8 R Crawford home in this city at 12 oclock last Thursday night after a year of ill health. Body shipped to Lronton Ohio to rest beside parents in family cemetery. He was a Universalist and requested burial in the old home place. Remains were taken to Lronton by Mr and Mrs 8 R Crawsford. The Leader extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
Graham places fourth in Holland's Cleanest Town Contest with a score of 89 as reported by Nrelland's Magazine. McGregor leads with 91.2, Memphis 90.8, and Canyon 90.1 as part of a large field of Texas towns.
The apportionment of State school money for this month will be $2.00 per scholar and should be here by February 10. F. M. Burkett.
Trades Day for 1914 is set for next Monday with horse races on the track north of town after the Merchants' Free Picture Show at the opera house. K W Carlton has organized races expected to draw top county horses and enthusiasts if the weather cooperates. The Merchants' Free Show promises extra fine pictures to please attendees.
Reverend W. T. Kilpatrick Baptist preacher died at his home near Jean at 5 oclock yesterday morning. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in this city this morning. He leaves a wife and several children. A fuller obituary will follow in The Leader.
Chas. Gay and A. A. Morrison attended the funeral of Cscero Smith in Mineral Wells yesterday. Rev. J. L. McCord, missionary Baptist preacher, traveled from Loving to arrange the funeral and burial of Kilpatrick at Oak Grave Cemetery this morning.
Judge E. W. Fry captured third prize at the National Sunny South Gun Shoot in Houston last Thursday, breaking 96 of 100 targets. The champion posted 97, while the Houston Chronicle conducted the prize event. Fry has repeatedly won prizes this year, indicating skill beyond a single performance.
Cicero Smith longtime West Texas financier died at his Mineral Wells home last Monday night from pneumonia at age sixty nine. He served as president of Graham National Bank and was a stockholder in Morrison Smith Lumber Company and known by leading citizens and business men.
C. C. Mayes and Mrs Frances IIsgrig wed at the residence of Rev Caldwell pastor of First Presbyterian Fort Worth on Monday February 2 at 4 PM. They arrived on the night train and will reside here. The groom is a leading Graham citizen with many friends who join The Leader in offering congratulations.
Graham High School students organized an athletic association last Friday evening electing Clint Copeland president R F Shortt secretary Albert Holt treasurer and John Fisher press agent Holt named captain of the baseball team A committee of Dur ham Fisher and Akin will draft a constitution and by laws to promote athletic activities at Graham High School.
Mrs Rose hosted an informal sewing party last Saturday afternoon in Gulfport Mississippi to honor Mrs Ira T Gilmer. The guests included Mrs Elliott the hostess mother and a luncheon was served to Mesdames John Morrison Albert Kay Hall Morrison H L Morrison Z A Hudson A A Morrison and Misses Lottin Morrison and the hon or guest.
Dr Gallaher and family prepare to move from Graham to Dallas after many years in the community. Citizens express sincere regrets at their departure.
