South Bend Fire Wipes Out O K Hotel Block
A midweek blaze in South Bend caused a 25000 dollar loss, starting in a room at the O. K. Hotel and sweeping half a block including the post office. Owner Frank Bowman was badly burned while trying to fight the fire with a small extinguisher. The blaze damaged several buildings but volunteers and wet conditions helped limit destruction. The post office, O. K. Barber Shop, Budweiser Confectionery, and Oil Field Grocery suffered losses while mail was saved and the office moved nearby.

Income Tax Man Scheduled in February Tour

City Plans to Meet Growth with Water and Power Upgrades
The city accelerates improvements with a larger disposal plant across Salt creek and a major water system expansion. A new five times larger standpipe on the mountain will be built, a 10 inch main laid around the square, and fifty two fire plugs installed to improve coverage. Burton to Keep Arm After Oil City Shooting
Chas Burton, oil operator shot in the arm by Deputy Sheriff Buck Weaver in Oil City ten days ago, is improving and doctors believe his arm will be saved. Weaver was arrested on a second warrant and released on a bond of 1500 dollars.

New School Building Planned in Shawnee Addition
At a school board meeting the contract for a new Shawnee Addition school building was awarded to Hanger & Chambers of Dallas. Architect T. C. Galbraith designed it. The 64 by 92 foot structure will have eleven classrooms, a large auditorium, a principal's office, a library, and modern conveniences, with a total cost of $59,130.

Two Negro Women Rob DeWitt Ragland Near Rock Island Depot
DeWitt Ragland was robbed of his purse near the Rock Island depot on Saturday night by two Black women. After passing, they overtook him, pulled his hands, and took the purse containing one or two dollars. He struck one woman, but a knife was used against his clothes. Officers rounded up Black women in town, but he could not identify the attackers. This follows a recent spate of robberies by Black individuals in Graham.

Graham Schools Enter Second Team With New Pupils
The Graham public schools began the second half of the year with crowded facilities. Three teachers were added to handle overflow as about 160 primary pupils fill the building and 33 seventh graders move to high school. Nearly 3800 in high school and about 1000 in grades, with forty new pupils this week. The school board has let a contract for a new building to be completed before next session. A separate high school building is deemed essential for Graham.

New Bible Department Opens at Graham High School
Graham schools added a Bible department taught by Miss Anna M. Beard of Long Beach California. About fifty high school students are enrolled with plans to extend to grades and adults. Adding Tests as Bunger Field Surges with New Wells
Southern Young County shows 55 producing wells in the Bunger field after recent completions. The Owen No 1 first productive well found the 1900 ft sand on August 11, with the Lynn, Herron, and Penn Cities-Herron wells extending the field and opening new producing areas. Production rose from 38587 barrels per day in December to 4408 in January, highlighting high gravity oil with strong gasoline content and widespread operator interest.
