A 1869 showdown near Young County das called the last act of a dramatic cattle drive. Bill Kutch and Chap Carter raced back into a ring of fifty Comanches, drawing revolvers as Spencer rifles and government blankets marked the foe. Carter fell in the ensuing chase, Ira Graves rose as captain and led a retreat to a gulley then a basin, while two riders risked their lives to save companions, a tale of courage amid frontier danger and tragedy.

The Graham School in Texas opens September 1 with emphasis on discipline and thorough study. Teachers follow daily programs, and parents should cooperate. fallout from summer exams shows higher standards, with 2800 of 4500 applicants failing. Superintendent B. C. Odom urges unity among board, teachers, pupils, and patrons.
News notes report no preaching at the Presbyterian church next Sunday as the pastor travels to Loving. Mrs A A Morrison was bitten five times by a spider last Tuesday evening and remains in serious condition. Miss Ethel Street leaves Boonville for home, and Dr W F Blair of Sherman tours the square with public demonstrations drawing crowds. Graham baseball team split a pair with Throckmorton, 14 to 0 in the first game and 3 to 1 in the second after a tie. J W Wiggins of Breckinridge visits and buys the Walker block, planning to keep the hardware store and rent the rest to others.
A stockman declares he will be in Graham in a few days to buy horses and cattle. He claims experience in the stock business and promises fair treatment and reasonable prices. He mentions recently returning from Tangier Oklahoma where he disposed of mares and colts.
A pocket-book containing some money was found. The owner may claim by calling on J C Carmack, describing the pocket-book and its contents, and paying the notice fee.
Last Wednesday night James Porter a popular saddlery man wed Miss Rounsaville an accomplished young lady of Antelope Jack county. Friends had waited for this match and now extend congratulations and best wishes for the couple.

A new Masonic lodge was instituted at Loving on Tuesday the 29th by dispensation of the Grand Master of Texas. Charles Widmeyer served as W Master with M H Steadham and C T Proffitt as Junior Wardens. Graham Masons attended. a large community dinner followed.
Last Monday noon death visited C. W. Johnson's farm seven miles west of town and claimed John Galloway after weeks with typhoid fever. He leaves a wife and four young children, a hard working man in the prime of life, and the community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.

County Judge J W Akin traveled to Austin on Wednesday to seek approval from the Texas Attorney General for the late issue of Young county bridge bonds.
R F Taggert resigns from ice business and joins Crawford gin owned by Crim. W A Hurt takes charge of ice operations. The notice invites readers to a Saturday night grand minstrel program with songs dances and performances by the Georgia instrels.

The total appears 309 750.00 with verification by cashier J M Norman in Young County Texas dated August 1995.
In Young County Texas Chas. Gay, Cashier, swears the bank’s statement is true. The report lists overdrafts 79766.27, U.S. bonds 12500.00, reserve items 27082.0, notes of other banks 1329.00, legal tender notes 3060.00, redemption fund 625.00, capital stock 0, undivided profits 12754.88, national bank notes 12600.00, due to other banks 2911.59, totals 147087.76, date August 1905.
