Young County Commissioners announced a lower combined Graham tax rate of 3.95 dollars with the county part reduced to 0.70 and the state up to 0.75. Residents in Graham will pay 3.95 dollars total plus any city and school taxes where applicable, with detailed allocations for state, county, city, and school portions.
The dry weather speeds up cotton opening in Graham with the first bale noted last week. T. L. Thigpen, W. R. Shepard, J. H. Shepard, and H. Valadez record early bale deliveries as prices hover around 21 cents and premiums of 5000 and 25 dollars are cited.

The Methodist Church announces no preaching services but Sunday School and People’s services proceed as usual with revival activities led by T. EK Bowman at the Ed Top location.
Reverend C R Taylor, pastor of the Baptist church, will resume services after a three week vacation. He plans to reach Graham Saturday and lead all regular services on Sunday in the pulpit.
The Rex Theatre opened last Saturday on the north side of the square in the former Russell Dry Goods Co building. Managed by J. G. Coleman, who owned the burned Majestic, the new venue offers a remodeled front, a fitted interior, a raised floor, electric and power fans, and a continual flow of cool air as it aims to provide a first class show.
W. H. Hawkins of Indian Mound told The Leader that a dog killed an armadillo in his yard after 2 a.m. The animal, described with a mask like a K K K, was captured and died days later. Hawkins also recalls killing a two headed snake observed by neighbors.

Roy Jones and Miss Viola Pardue were married last week by Rev. G. W. Black after traveling to secure his services. Jones, son of Art Jones of Graham, grew up locally while Pardue was from the Mount Pleasant area. The couple receives many congratulations from friends.
S. J. E. Carson and his young son I. E. Jr are visiting in the area along with Mrs. F. M. Burkett. The child is a favorite with the family and Grandpa and Grandma Burkett hope he can visit regularly.
Judge W. P. Stinson and his party spent last week in Throckmorton county fishing. The judge, not well for several days, rested in the shade while the others fished.
John Crow of Finis visited the city today, meeting local residents and discussing community matters. Crow spoke briefly at a public event before touring downtown areas and posing for photographs with supporters.
Edwin C. Ruff of North American Oil & Refining Co Oklahoma City commends Graham Fire Department for controlling a Tuesday night blaze near the courthouse block The Chamber of Commerce reports about 800 dollars donated to the department and local pride in its service The city aims to send two representatives to each annual convention and maintain top state fire service.
Buck Weaver former Young county deputy sheriff was indicted for assault to murder by a grand jury last spring. He was arrested in San Antonio and released on a 500 bond by a local judge. He will stand trial at Graham in September for the shooting of Chas Burton at Oil City last winter, an act said to be without cause. Burton has recovered. Weaver disappeared after posting bond to await the grand jury.
Miss Bella Pearl Wheat daughter of Mr and Mrs W L Wheat formerly of here died in Memphis Texas last week and was buried here Monday. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church conducted by her Memphis pastor. She was a faithful worker in the Baptist church at Memphis and her pastor accompanied the remains. Her sister Mrs Q Street resides here and Miss Ula Pearl, well known in this community, visited recently.
BE. R. Acock received a letter from Brother C R Taylor describing a fine time in North Carolina. He notes frequent rain but good meetings while visiting his give estate.
Austin reports the dove hunting season begins September 1 with strict enforcement by State Game Commissioner W W Boyd. The notice lists county by county bag limits, license rules, and methods prohibited such as trapping or shooting from vehicles. Restrictions apply to non residents and certain counties ban gobbler hunting.
Interest in the Sunday School base ball league grows as the season nears close with Christians leading and Methodists close behind. The season has seen spirited play and good sportsmanship, with some dissatisfaction directed at the umpire, a difficult position to fill. The standings reflect Christians first, Methodists second, amid overall favorable sentiment as summer ends. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Askew left for a monthlong visit to Oklahoma and Arkansas.
M. W. Larmour, manager and artist, recently installed several beautiful decorations in the National Theatre. He designed and created them himself with electric lights behind the pictures, drawing favorable comment from patrons. Larmour aims to give the public the best entertainment in a comfortable, inviting setting.
In Weatherford on August 19 R A Voorheis sold a Jumbo watermelon weighing 103 pounds to G A Holland of the Citizens National Bank. The melon bought for Joe Dickey of Calexico Cal will be used for exhibition. Express charges bring total to $27.
Havre Montana report notes Cornelia Clack daughter of Mrs Phil Clack gave a delightful reading as Sis Hopkins and performed a clever doll dance and reading. The young entertainer impressed the audience with her talent and humor adding charm to the afternoon program.
Dr. R. A. Duncan and family come home this week from a several week trip to New Mexico. He brought back numerous ore specimens including gold silver and copper as well as country views. Dr. Duncan notes details beyond casual observers and records trip observations.
J. G. Wootten halted briefly in Graham on a Denver to Kosse flight and headed home after hearing of the Kosse well. He arrived satisfied with the big Young county field and his long journey.
Miss Allie Maude Bynum daughter of Mr and Mrs H C Bynum of South Oak Street has returned from Boulder Colorado where she spent the past year at the university.
Mrs. Agnes McEwin died at her home in Southview Addition last week from a hemorrhage of the lungs. She had been in failing health. The body was shipped to Chicago for burial. Her husband is in the oil business locally. A. D. Stewart and W. A. Stewart and families recently returned from a trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas. Bill stopped The Leader man to show where he had been snake bitten. after an operation by a tensorial artist he is presentable again and mingling with friends.
The week saw a 2508 barrel increase in oil output despite curtailment in Young county. Herron field leads activity with Bunger second, South Bend remains active with new wells weekly, and Graham area ships vast supplies to fields daily as wildcatting grows.
J D Ryus of Ketchikan Alaska visits Graham for the first time since 1891. His father built the town’s first brick structure and Ryus, the early druggist, was in business during Graham’s pioneer era.
