County Superintendent B. W. King reports the State Board of Education set the apportionment at 8.00 per capita, the highest to date. Young County has 267 scholastics, yielding 26136.00 from the State, with local taxes 24000.00 and county funds about 1000.00, totaling 52136.00 for school support in 1913.
The Graham Public Schools will open Monday September 7 1914 with exercises in the High School Auditorium at 9 o clock. The public is invited and a program will be announced next week.
The Newcastle Register reports a major reservoir breach early Thursday after Wednesday night rainfall. About sixty feet of the east dam washed away, destroying H. B. Thomas’s garden and causing losses for Mr. Vea who lives downstream.
C M Keeter a longtime Elbert community resident and respected Throckmorton county citizen died at a prayer meeting during a Baptist revival on Tuesday evening August 11. He was 64, leaves a wife and seven children, and was a member of Boggy Valley Baptist church Masonic and W O W orders. He was laid to rest the following evening in the family cemetery.
Mrs. W. L. Mobley former resident of this county died at her home in Oklahoma City on August 2 and was buried there the next day. Her son R. R. Mobley of Murray and three other children in Oklahoma City were with her at death. She was a Methodist and valued neighbor and community. Husband W. L. Mobley and son R. R. Mobley arrived by train Monday night and went to the Murray home.
Mrs. C L Pattent returns to Goree after a visit with her father J W Still and relatives. J C Copeland delivers the season's first bale to Graham and is awarded a $14.75 premium after bale free and listing.
County Board of Education will hold meetings August 27 to 29 to complete school classifications and apportion available school funds to county schools. Trustees are invited, with special discussion on Saturday August 29 for district trustees. B. W. King County Superintendent and R. G. Hallam Board President.
A house party hosted by Mr and Mrs Ii D Clark honored Mrs Birkhead of Arkansas with a nine-table progressive rock game on the porch and lawn. Miss May Gilmore topped the ladies with high score, Henry Porter won gentlemen’s favor, and Mrs Birkhead received pink silk hose.
Misses Fanny Stoffers and Laura Lynn Guimorin chaperoned a group of children Tuesday evening for a mountain picnic. They honored Mr Joe Owen and Miss Ruby Coney of Cleburne Texas with games kodaking and a watermelon lunch. Attendees included Pauline Pickard Sadie Eddleman Mary Glen Vick Lena Stoffers Bessie Mayes and Douglas Cole.
Rev. B. F. Stallings returned last Thursday from Rylie Texas where he conducted a revival meeting with sixty one conversions. At the close of the meeting the old members treated the new members to supper featuring twenty gallons of ice cream and an abundance of cake.
E. M. Cusenbary and daughter Miss Zephyr returned from a visit to his daughter Mrs. E. M. Tankersley in El Paso. He toured the city and surrounding country and found El Paso exceptionally clean and beautiful with busy, contented inhabitants.
W M Glidewell of Finis visited and said Finis received ten inches of rain last Wednesday night and Thursday morning. He is pleased with his new ranch near Valentine and believes it to be a great cow country.
