Cavalry Division Being Formed for Texas Guard
A new Texas National Guard cavalry unit of two brigades totaling 9 000 men is being organized for Mexican border service. A 105 man troop in Clay and Young counties is recruiting under Captain Walter Allen with Lieutenant Harris and other officers. Enlistment targets ages 18 to 45 with regular army pay and benefits, and immediate mobilization to federal service is expected within about three weeks.
