The County Fair closed with happiness among spectators exhibitors and officials. Work on next year’s fair will begin soon with plans to improve livestock field crops and commercial exhibits. FFA and 4-H livestock judging winners were Fred Gough Edward Lough Steven Poe and David Bartlett. The Sentinel awarded a calf and sow prize plus a year’s subscription to each winner.

Second Night Jubilee Street Dances and Entertainment Planned
Intermittent showers dampened the opening night of Grafton Volunteer Firemen’s Jubilee Week on Latrobe Street. Fire Chief John Proctor said the carnival started well and many activities are planned for the week including tonight’s street dance, novelty programs, games, concession stands, and two rides. Witnessed by crowds, eighteen fire departments paraded. Parsons won best equipment, Rice’s Landing best appearing department, Fairdance earned best band, Bridgeport had the most men on foot, and longest distance traveled went to Benwood. Bridgeport, Philippi, and others received honorable mention. Both Grafton school bands also participated.

Odom's Pilot Killed in National Air Races Crash
William P. Odom 30, famed wartime flyer and solo globe trotter, died when his green racing plane plunged into a suburban home during the final day of the National Air Races. Also killed were Mrs. Jeanne Laird 24 and her year old son Craig, as the F-51 Mustang roared from roof to basement and a fire destroyed the house.

46 Cases Docketed For Supreme Court
