War veteran ends vigil with self inflicted death in stairway
In Grand Rapids a 32 year old war veteran Roger Kohlenberger fatally shot himself after three hours holding two police at bay in a dimly lit stairwell. His mother and wife Cola waited below as he prepared to come down, the shot ringing out as he reached the top step. Authorities are unsure if the fatal shot was accidental or deliberate.
