Walter H. Wolfe, candidate for Grafton City Council, withdrew by mail. He cited personal reasons and said he cannot serve if elected, preferring to exit before the June 7 municipal race. He thanked supporters and pledged to stay active in fiscal government and oppose water meters.

Grafton High school alumni booklets will be off the press May 25 announced by general chairman Ellen Jane Wiseman. About 1,000 copies are printed with 800 requests so far. The booklets include names addresses pictures and items of local interest for alumni. A banquet is set for May 28 at 6 20 p m in the field house to honor graduates of 60 or more years. Hush alumni will register between 5 and 6 15 p m the day of the banquet.
Republic Steel Corp announced the appointment of Lester BE Stevens, a Volga, West Virginia native, to assistant superintendent of its inspection department at Youngstown Ohio.
The Progressive Grafton committee releases details of a proposed water project to replace a 60 year old steel reservoir. A new 500000 gallon tank would be built on higher ground to raise pressure about 40 pounds, improve top town areas, and relocate booster pumps to a 12 inch line direct to the new tank.
Dayton Beach reports the death of Dr Mary McLeod Bethune a renowned educator who founded a college from humble beginnings. She died Wednesday night of a heart attack at age 0 while at her desk after a day of work. She had remained active despite illness and had long influenced Negro education.
