Bloom blamed several persons for booing while chamber officials cited one man as responsible. The speech warned taxes aid living in a free country and cited organized disruption at the session.

Navy to Get Added Funds for Building New Warships and Planes

The House Appropriations Committee recommended a 770,,241 appropriation for the navy to begin construction of 23 new warships and 500 airplanes. The measure, though trimmed by about 19.96 million from budget estimates, would push total funding well above the current appropriation, with several unrelated contracts to negotiate.

Three contracts awarded for Tygart river dam project in this section. Orville J. Moore of Grafton wins hire of motor trucks for 337.50 dollars. Mason brothers of Grafton to furnish about 1,800 tons of crushed stone for Tygart roads at 4410 dollars. Reilly Tar and Chemical Corp of Fairmont to supply around 1,300 gallons of road tary for Tygart roads at 234 dollars.

Barter deal with British arranged seeks cotton talks

Senator Byrnes said London advised the United States that Britain was interested in negotiating a barter agreement. He outlined a plan to exchange surplus cotton rubber and tin held by Britain and other nations. Preliminary negotiations have begun in London.

Berlin May 4 A diplomat with knowledge of the German situation predicted that Polish Foreign Minister Joseph Beck's speech would determine whether war fears would be lifted or if Hitler would take immediate action against Danzig and the Polish corridor. If Beck is moderate concessions compatible with dignity could avert war, while failure to negotiate may prompt aggression.

Record crowds overflow Grafton cooking school

The community free cooking school sponsored by the Grafton Sentinel and the Pittsburgh and West Virginia Gas Company drew over 750 attendees at Grafton High School auditorium. Ann Sutter led demonstrations with assistants, while prizes including a $126 Tappan gas range were promised Friday.

Disagreement Reported By Chairman In Coal Talks

New York May 4. F Robinson, chairman of the conferences, says eight weeks of negotiations have failed to yield a compromise in the soft coal industry. He warns the disagreement will be reported to the Appalachian conference of 300 representatives tomorrow. Operators and UMW miners number 338,000 affected. The chairsmen indicate the compromise offered was rejected.
