Communications anarchy in letters to the editor burning question
A fragment from a 1930s era page discusses letters to the editor and publication rules, then pivots to fiscal policy and New Deal critique. It cites the Clayden Inc advertising office, federal spending, railroads, and questions whether another election can be bought as Roosevelt’s programs draw scrutiny. The text mixes religious verses with political opinion and ad boilerplate.

New Deal Clash Over Spending and Democracy
The piece warns that Roosevelt's spending program risks pushing the nation toward collectivist economics and socialism, threatening democratic free initiative if the New Deal secures another election. It contrasts this with careful government purchasing practices and a Senate filibuster over silver price amendments.

Grafton Officials Elect Mayors and Lay Groundwork
In 1870 Graf ton elected Williama Tumner as mayor and council members Patrick Burns Gran ville Jarvis and William Mallonee. Stephen Stiles became town clerk and John Doonan treasurer with John Shea as sergeant. Surveyors Harmon Sinsel and Adolphus Armstrong mapped lots south of Three Fork creek to settle property disputes. The council approved licenses for liquor sales at Wilson House and Cassel House. A bond issue of 15000 funded a new public school near center town, with land bought from the Fetterman heirs, and old Central School faced preservation concerns for 450 students. The community feared losing the historic building that educated generations and prompted strong local opposition to its abandonment. The Grafton Weekly Sentinel began publication on April 8 1870.
