Philadelphia June 26 Governor Thomas E Dewey declared glowing prospects for a Republican victory in November and urged unity with Earl Warren as running mate He praised Carroll Reece and others at the convention and was optimistic the party would end 16 years of drought with new hope and faith for the nation.

Explosions Injure Dozens At Aetna Oil Plant

Louisville dispatch reports about 20 people injured as 23 gasoline storage tanks exploded at the Aetna Oil company plant. Damages estimated at $500,000 with fires confined to the run down farm area behind a dike. The first blast at 1 20 a m. followed by several more until about 4 a m. Company officials and police await determination of cause. Firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the flames.

Races to be Broadcast Over Fairmont Station

Fairmont Station WMMN will broadcast boat races on Ty Gart Lake next Sunday afternoon, July Fourth, announced by Charles Casner secretary of the Tygart Lake Development Corporation. The broadcast may be direct for the occasion, not by transcription. Memorial Day races were broadcast by WVVW but via transcription.

Revercomb Says Army Scrapped Enlistment for Draft

U S Senator Chapman Revercomb charged the Army scuttled the voluntary enlistment program to push a draft. Speaking to the state Veterans of Foreign Wars encampment he claimed intelligence test standards were raised to thin enlistments, noting a shift from a 59 score to 70 and then 80. He said the Navy and Air Force did not abandon voluntary enlistment despite the draft act.

Pengy...ain Head Party Committee Name for Rep Scott

Rep Hugh B. Scott Jr, a 47 year old Pennsylvania congressman, was named to head the Republican National Committee. Named by Gov Dewey and Gov Warren, Scott succeeds Carroll Reece and will serve as Dewey's liaison with the national committee and Congress. Herbert Brownell of New York has been mentioned as a possible campaign director. Scott served in the Pacific as a lieutenant commander and helped drive the navy jeep into Tokyo after Japan's capitulation.
