A four engine KLM plane crashed into the sea near Bari Italy killing between 30 and 40 people. Americans Dutch and Turks among the victims were recovered though many badly burned. Italian Navy divers aided in the search as wreckage was scattered by choppy seas. The flight was from Batavia to Amsterdam with a possible emergency landing attempt near Bari.

Gus Gianakos of Beaver Falls has arrived in Grafton to oversee the new Manos theatre set to open Monday night June 27. Assistant manager is William Kyle Young. veteran staff include Diane Boe, Cecil Snider, James White, Shirley Ann Millerot, Joan Wolfe, Lucille Gough, Betty Stutler, and David Woodford. Gianakos, WWII veteran and Geneva College graduate, has led the theatre for four months and previously spent nine years as assistant manager of the Bedite theatre in Ambridge. The Ginnakos family has made 629 West Main street their home.
Seaman Calvin H. Fike, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Fike of 605 Watkin Street, will visit Portsmouth England and Cherbourg France this summer. He serves on the battleship USS Missouri, part of a ten ship Midshipmen Practice Cruise Squadron with tours planned for London and Paris. The cruise provides practical shipboard training to Nagel Academy and Reserve units alongside regular ship’s companies.
