Letter from Middle West to Knottsville readers
The correspondent from Knottsville travels from West Virginia to York Nebraska arriving June 5 after leaving June 3. He notes severe drought drying crops in the region and a lack of moisture all winter. York is described as refined with a large high school class and widespread automobile ownership among farmers. He describes Barnsley in the estate area and his week in the country, reporting monolithic scenery and monotony compared with West Virginia, with few fruit trees and uniform houses and barns. He mentions helping harvest alfalfa and raking acres, and contrasts local agriculture with his home region.
