Public Works Program Expands Industrial Reach Across Sectors
The broad public works initiative covers highway and forest road construction, slum clearance, public housing, schools and courthouses, water plants, natural resource projects, flood control, and river harbor improvements. Defense adds naval, army housing, aircraft, and motorization. This program influences labor across quarried materials, cement, steel mills, railroads, trucking, and manufacturing.
Senator Wagner Opposes Silent Government Policy Shift
Senator Wagner criticizes a shift toward active government, arguing it departs from a silent spectator role as Americans strive for social and economic ideals. He notes that public works boost indirect employment and circulation through materials and transport, benefiting steel, stone, cement, brick, and lumber industries, with flood control, river and harbor improvements, and power development providing similar stimulation across industry.
