Lawrence named Guffey campaign manager for the ticket headed by Governor George H Earle for senator and Charles Alvin Jones for governor.
In Washington Pennsylvania on June 15 a potato sprayer exploded killing 35 year old Carey M Crownover at Elrama. Investigators say he was using an ordinary chemical spray mixed with water when the device burst. Crownover died instantly and leaves a widow and five children.
A severe cholera outbreak in the United Provinces of northern India claims about 12,000 lives in seven weeks. Authorities from British and Indian medical services have mobilized hundreds of physicians to fight the disease.
After a two hour hearing Justice A B Knabenhuesue dismissed felonious assault charges against Mrs D O Reed in a domestic dispute at 710 D street. He advised peace bonds for all involved as the confrontation appeared to be a family fight. Reed had testified that his wife attacked after a daughter was insulted. A bucket reportedly rolled into the room as the dispute escalated.
In Ashland Pennsylvania a father Peter Shinskowsky 48 and his son Peter Jr 17 were brought out by rescuers after being trapped since early Monday. They appeared in good condition and were taken to a hospital wrapped in blankets. The elder's daughter Mary watched from the scene while the mother rested at home after two days.
Luckenback heiress age 18 wed William Dobbs 22 a butter and egg salesman without her father Commodore Edgar Luckenbach’s consent. The couple sails the Long Island Sound on a borrowed yacht for a three day honeymoon and plan to settle in an eight room farmhouse in Syosset.
In Media Pennsylvania Mrs Ethel Hollenbaugh age 24 testified in divorce court she kept a score of her husband abuses. She read a list including struck on face 30 times kicked 12 times choked 25 times pulled out of bed twice. She won the divorce.
John L. Lewis C I O chairman sought floor action on the Walsh Healey labor bill after the House Rules Committee pigeonholed it. Speaker Bankhead indicated no motion would be entertained to suspend rules and permit a vote. This was Lewis second capitol visit with five C I O associates to urge legislative action.
Youngstown June 16 A nine woman twelve man jury found Herbert Ross of Cleveland guilty of first degree murder in the gangland ride by killing Roy Happy Marino on September 9 The jury recommended mercy making a life sentence to the Ohio state penitentiary mandatory A similar verdict was handed down three weeks earlier against John Anthoulis a Steubenville lottery operator who was jointly indicted with Ross and three others for the Youngstown police figure shooting
Congressman Henry B. Steagall won renomination in Alabama's third district in a run-over primary. He defeated J. Hubert Farmer 15,425 to 11,325 on unofficial returns from 226 of 240 boxes. No New Deal issues were involved.
Miami Florida June 15 The evidence against Franklin Pierce McCall a 21 year old truck driver and minister's son who pleaded guilty to the ransom kidnapping of five year old James Bailey Cash Jr was presented to Circuit Judge H F Atkinson who will decide sentencing while federal agents and Cash senior recounted the crime and McCall's plea of guilty to kidnapping.
London Kentucky June 15 government attorneys pursued a case against 22 operators 20 coal companies and 22 former mine guard deputies accused of conspiring to prevent unionization in Harlan county miners. The trial dragged as defense challenged whether the operations affected interstate commerce and refused stipulation that all defendant companies ran similar operations.
Republicans won Martinsburg with mayor Chris H. Dailey securing a fifth term by 4248 to 2023 over Gray Silver and a full Republican council. Wellsburg elected Robert Barnes as city clerk and ousted two Democratic incumbents, while three incumbents were reelected. Mullens reappointed Mayor R. L. Early to a third term by an unofficial 20 vote lead over Democrat Judson Davis and 172 over Citizens party candidate W. M. Holroyd, with Early running on the Peoples ticket.
Police pursue two possible motives in the Flag Day roadhouse massacre that killed three men in Tamaqua Pennsylvania. Philadelphia gang feud and payoffs from a white slave racket are considered. Victims are Bisciotti Gustine Star 4oe and Leonardo Pugliese, all from Philadelphia. Detectives say the killings bear Philadelphia gang marks and may relate to a traveling pact to collect payoffs.
William G. Stathers of Clarksburg spoke to thousands at Flag Day exercises by Grafton lodge No. 308 Elks in Station Square. He warned against abdicating to political theorists and bureaucracy, stressing a government of the people endures only when the people govern. The ceremony featured floral Liberty bell, music by the Grafton High School band and the Drum and Bugle corps, and a history of the flag presented by W. Merle Watkins with Boy Scouts help.
Thomas Card, 23, of Columbus Grove, bought an automobile and drove it 100 feet from the garage to a railroad crossing where it was struck by a train passenger car. He was brought to a hospital in fair condition.

TOLEDO June 15. Sabotage split 24 air brake hoses causing a five hour delay in the Ringling Bros Barnum & Batley circus train bound for Erie Pa. The vandalism capped a day of labor trouble with teamsters and drivers walkouts over a foreman’s discharge. Tractors loaded the circus after last night’s performance. John Ringling North said the show would open in Erie despite the delay. Ringling recently asked employees for a wage cut due to low revenues.
Washington June 15 President Roosevelt's signature is awaited to launch a landmark act regulating industrial hours and wages. Congress passed a compromise measure to set a 44 hour week, rising to 40, with a 40 cent minimum wage by year end escalating to 40 cents across industries. The plan covers 750,000 workers and 1.5 million others, with gradual wage increases and a nationwide rollout 120 days after signing.
Washington a June 16 B H Meyer of the Interstate Commerce Commission warned the United States faces the greatest railroad salvaging operation in history unless carriers status changes. He urged reconsideration of increases in Associated Railways demand to require the long M and St L to be split up and to abandon about 400 miles of line not desired by the seven carriers in Iowa Minnesota and South Dakota.
