Six Grafton juveniles were riding in an open top Ford roadster when it overturned on State Route 119 near Blueville at 2 am. Eloise Gillispie, 17, suffered a throat wound, scalp laceration and knocked out teeth. Betty Craft, 18, sustained a broken collar bone and possible rib and pelvis fractures. Driver Lawrence Miller, 20, had possible rib injuries. Three youths were discharged after emergency care, while Miller and the two girls remained in City hospital. Trooper H Parks said Miller lost control while driving toward town, and the car left the road and rolled onto its left side.

A solemn memorial service was held at 180 p m at Mt Morris church and cemetery for 24 veterans from five wars. West Union Tourist Home Destroyed by Fire
A tourist home owned by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kinney in West Union was ruined by a late night blaze causing about 10000 dollars in loss including furnishings. A Kent county Maryland native born January 7, 1893 he was a former Veterans Administration patient at Oteen North Carolina. He worked at Starcher Chevrolet Sales and Service later TS Chevrolet firm and was active in St Matthias Episcopal church and Taylor County American Legion Post No 12. He was survived by his wife.

Truman veto blocks expansion of needy aged benefits
Washington June 14 President Truman vetoed a Social Security bill that would increase aid to the old and blind and dependent children while also expanding old age insurance funded by payroll taxes. He criticized piecemeal changes and said the bill falls short of his requests. The veto blocked a $184 million annual federal boost and a $5 monthly grant for the aged and blind with state matching funds as well as a $3 monthly grant for dependent children.
