Police squads swept through Chicago neighborhoods arresting five hundred suspects described as hoodlums derelicts and suspects in a large crackdown. No injuries were reported as officers conducted raids and detained individuals at multiple hangouts.
West Virginia dailies push rewards totaling 100 dollars for conviction of Lingle's assassin. Brooklyn Eagle and Huntington Herald-Dispatch add 100 to 55,000 offered. editorials condemn, advise, and console as six Chicago gangsters are jailed for questioning in the Lingle case.
The Grafton City Hospital Board held its regular monthly meeting at the hospital. Superintendent Ruby B. Graham reported that May was the first month with no deaths, while January through April each recorded one death. Continued on page eight.
Attorneys for Bartlett Bros bus company Bruce Talbott Philippi Guy Burnside and Clarence Lynch asked Judge Kittle to set aside the $17 500 verdict for Mrs Eileen Bennett and grant a new hearing on alleged insufficient evidence and faulty instructions The defense contends the bus was on schedule before crashing into a bridge abutment near Prunty town in January 1928 and slowed to 25 miles per hour entering a curve before the impact.
In Fadyville Kentucky on June 12 a white man and four enslaved men face execution by electrocution with the dawn approaching on Friday the 18th. Warden Gumm readied the death seat while Governor Sampson weighed last minute pleas for stays for three of the condemned. Ballard E Ratelyt 35 Richard Edmonds 34 John Keller 27 James Grigsby 38 and Lloyd Williams 24 are the five condemned.
A historic note recalls that on February 26 1789 the first American flag flew from the gable of Buzzards Glory a floorless log schoolhouse built in 1788 near Pruntytown West of Fairmont Clarksburg Grafton area. Boston June 12 Captain Archibald Brooks of the Hiner Fairfax testified in a federal probe that a quick sea disaster prevented SOS calls from aiding in time. He said four lives were lost but that an immediate general SOS was sent until signals failed due to flamiks. The Fairfax firefighting lasted under 20 minutes as the tanker burned.
Washington reports Chairman Claudius Huston of the Republican National Committee delivered a forceful denial of accusations that he lobbied or used Tennessee River Improvement Association funds to cover deficits in his brokerage account. He alleged a whispering campaign and said the accusations were fabrications designed to dist ract from legitimate party business.
Civil action against Russell McCartney in circuit court was continued as Dr C S Campbell was called to the bedside of his sister Mrs C F Saffle in Topeka Kansas. Campbell and his mother Mrs A E Campbell of Volga plan to travel to Topeka to consult physicians about proposed operations for Mrs Saffle.
Dr. J. Frank Cowan of San Diego California visits Grafton as guest of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Abbott on West Main Street. Once pastor of the Grafton Methodist Protestant church he now edits Sunday school literature. He has served as associate editor for the Christian Endeavor organ and later led a parish in Wheeling before a planned tour to New York and Berlin for the World Christian Endeavor convention.

Deputies closed the Home Furniture Co store on Hast Mainstreet under a writ of attachment for 1500 dollars filed by Brown Kendall Co. Landlord Squire M D Allen also issued a distress warrant for rent and posted on the front door.
Washington June 12 AP Moves to report Bishop James Cannon Jr to the senate for contempt and to seek explicit power to probe political activities. Walsh proposes reporting questions Cannon refused to answer and the 1928 campaign, while Blaine urges committee to cite the bishop and extend its probe authority. The panel voted 4 to 1 advising no compulsion to answer while debates over powers continue.
