West Virginia Industrial School for Boys at Pruntytown appoints Arnold Fisher of Moundsville as new farm head replacing D. J. Curry after 13 years. Supt. Jesse E. Riley announced the change and noted Fisher’s prior role as farm supervisor for the state penitentiary. Curry operates Valley Inn on U. S. Route 50.
Charleston dispatch reports Governor and his wife Hovah were uninjured after a two car crash on August 21 near Bluefield. Schnell, driver for the governor, said a car driven by James William Bowman of Mercer County skidded into the governor's rear.
Grafton Elks sponsor a Flag Day parade Friday promising a bigger and better observance. The event includes marching units, bands, and a free benefit dance at the Elks Home to aid youth baseball leagues. Participants include Grafton High and Junior High bands, Industrial School Drum and Bugle Corps, Little League, Babe Ruth League players, and various veterans groups. The parade forms at 6:30 PM at the post office, moving at 7 PM, with a lineup featuring state police, sheriffs, city police, drill units, and color guards.

U S Air Force F84F Thunderstreaks completed the longest jet operational flight, non stop from Dover Delaware to Aviano Italy in 11 hours covering 5375 miles. The formation refueled three times by aerial tankers and leads the 389th Squadron replacing the 399th.
MAIDISON, Conn. A tire believed to have caused a fire raced through a two story frame house Monday night killing five persons including three children. Three others escaped one with minor burns. Victims include Charles Van Derwalker Jr. 37 who died trying to carry two nieces to safety and his sister Mary Cooley 29 with her three children Mary 3 Patricia 2 and Susan 40.
Charleston 1 Gov Cecil H Underwood accepted the resignations of three state officials effective June 30. Carl J Johnson state conservation director, Mrs Dale Thomas state historian and archivist, and Mrs Nell Walker banking commissioner all left. No replacements named yet. The resignations followed Underwood’s January inauguration amid a noted proposed reorganization of the commission. The governor asked that no further steps be taken until a new director reviews the program.
President Eisenhower, recovered from a stomach upset, returned to the White House office, dictating letters with no engagements planned. White House officials said he was virtually recovered and feeling fine, though a decision on Wednesday’s schedule would be announced later.
The Taylor County State Road Commission office announces Claude bridge over Sandy Creek between Taylor and Barbour counties will close immediately for about a week to ten days for necessary repairs. The bridge carries State Route 46 as a secondary highway.

A Santa Fe freight train struck a pickup truck on U.S. 60 near Rocky Ford, killing six or more farm workers and injuring survivors. The crash occurred early after sunrise. the truck driver Sylvester Lcano of Rocky Ford died, while several passengers perished or were gravely injured. Emergency crews from southeastern Colorado attended the scene as investigators described a mass of twisted metal and a deadly collision involving a 66-car freight bound from Pueblo to La Junta.
Senator Lyndon B. Johnson endorsed the 3.617 billion foreign aid measure and urged support from the Senate as debate loomed. He praised the Foreign Relations Committee for trimming the administration program by about 250 million and said the panel did an excellent job. Johnson indicated possible later reductions in the broader appropriation bill and vowed to work early and late to handle the workload this week.
